iPhone 4 mic only not working in phone app!

Hello

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1. Today people on the other end in calls couldn't hear me. Thought it was the mic that was broken but when using other applications like skype or voice recorder it works perfectly. I have tried to use the speaker and headset but it doesn't work in calls also, so i think this is a software error. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Hmmm? Six pages of people with the exact same problem....sounds like a coincidence! Not surprised at the lack of response by Apple. They don't care about you, or me. Never have. And they sure don't want a "microphonegate" on their hands. Especially not after a series of blunders, like Siri, or FCPX, or the latest, "upgrade" to the Mac Pro.

Now that Steve is gone, Apple's reigning days are numbered. Already my iPhone 4 (with the exact same problem described repeatedly in the previous six pages) seems tiny next to the competition, both in size and features. And it's going to take something better than a smart-***-talking-assistant-with-jokes, or a few more megapixels, for the iPhone 5 to keep them on the throne.

Even if they do come out with some crazy-new features, for me, the excitement left with Steve. I didn't realize it as much at the time, but all of the rumors, secrecy, and spin leading up to a grand announcement, was a really big deal! And it seemed like back then, products lived up to the hype!

Not anymore. Not for me anyway. I don't really follow the rumors anymore...don't really care. And now days, the products seem to leave me disappointed, despite no hype at all!

Good luck, Apple! Don't screw this one up!

Same problem here.

I first had the problem a few months ago, it would be intermittent on/off for days and then just started working again. Now the problem is back and it's extremely frustrating. Considering how many people are affected by it, I'm disappointed to see that Apple is doing nothing about it and am kind of surprised that this issue hasn't made the press.

I'm going to try this cardboard trick that has been mentioned earlier but if that doesn't work I'm not sure what I will do.

I love(d) the iPhone but do I want to take the risk again with a replacement or the next generation iPhone? I don't think so.

Same problem here. Got my phone in October of 2011 .I have stayed current with all the software updates. Did a wipe and restore. Nothing fixes it permanently. Was talking to my brother tonight and he said it sounded like I was talking inside a beer can and he could barely hear me. I hit the bottom mic area in the palm of my hand a few times and he then said it sounded better. Will be goign to a Verizon kiosk this weekend and demanding a new phone. i too cant believe the media hasnt heard and ran with this problem. Its all over the net.

Same problem here with my iphone 4 bought in Finland

First time it popped up 3 months ago. After applying the carboard fix the phone worked fine, but a few days ago the mic just stopped working for no reason.

Im so frustrated about it as i dont feel like buying a 4s which has the same problem and iphone 5 isnt out yet...

Looking forward to an official statement from Apple.

I too have this problem and have also attempted the cardboard insert trick as posted in the YouTube video, but nothing is consistently working. Luckily, I kept my old (now unlocked) 3G, so I went to the AT&T store and they happily put a new SIM card in the 3G and transfered my current number to that SIM free of charge so I can wait for the iPhone 5 release while getting by with my 3G…fingers crossed they solder those connections a little better in China this time.

Okay, don't quote me on this.. But this ha happened to me also, and it's literally the most annoying thing ever.. But I've read through everything I can ect, Youtubed it and what you can do is open up the back of your phone, using a Phillips screwdriver 00mm and put a cut out 'L' shape piece of cardboard in it, YouTube it if you need more information but I thought I would be helpful. I haven't actually tried it yet, but I will be tomorrow... But anyway, step up apple thea too many people with the same problem!
