Apple TV Won't load library

I am using the 2nd generation Apple TV and haven't had a problem until today. Now, Whenever I try to access any of the media on my computer it just stays stuck on Loading "my library". I've rebooted the computer and iTunes, all software in the iMac and iTunes is the latest and greatest...Any ideas?? YouTube and all other features are working fine but I can't access any of my stiff. Anyone have any ideas?!?!?!?

One thing you have not done is on the TV Settings/Computers/Turn Off Home Sharing/Turn Off

Then Turn On Home Sharing/Yes/OK

That should sort that problem or do a reset

Hope This helps

I just tried it yesterday, but I think a lot of it has to do with the update and the windows 7 firewall. I took my windows 7 firewall and it worked for me.

I went to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing
Then on the bottom left corner, clicked on 'Windows Firewall'
Then clicked 'Turn Windows firewall on or off'

make sure to turn off the network that you're connected to; home or public

I had the same problem where my Apple TV (2nd gen) could see the shared iTunes library on my Mac but would hang when trying to load the contents. Turns out the problem was that I had the Check Point Secure Client VPN software installed on the Mac (to get access to my company network). The Check Point client has a built-in firewall that was blocking inbound connections. I Uninstalled the Check Point VPN software and all is well now with the Apple TV.

I started having this problem with one of my computers, not all. My wife's iMac loaded instantly, while my old G5 was never loading. I had just added a bunch of media, including 12,000+ songs, 700+ movies, and 200+ TV shows.

All I did was quit iTunes on the offending computer and restart it after adding the media and it fixed it. Maybe you just need to restart iTunes after any settings or media change?

I had the same trouble as this. was scratching my head and was ready to take my apple TV back to the store.

I had reset my Mac, router, switched on/off home sharing, tried a different dsl connection and router, restarted the ATV, restored it, unplugged it, everything.

I have just disabled intego' anti virus barrier on my mac and its working fine.

What I would like to know though is, my ATV was working fine for weeks, with intego antivirus x6, then all of a sudden got this loading library error??

Thanks,

Okay. So I have had this home networking issue for a while. It would work if I restart the ATV2 every time. This made me think there is an issue in ATV2. However, once I changed the firmware on my ASUS router (from stock to DD-WRT), everything works just fine. So, I believe there could be something to do with the firewall on the routers (I had the firewall off on the stock firmware thought).
Hope this helps.

I've got this exact same issue. Weird thing with mined is, it was working fine when I fell asleep watching a film but when I woke up, nothing in my shared libraries will load. Everything else plays back fine, no lag or problems accessing youtube and online stuff, just my shared libraries. My Firewall is off (or at least to iTunes it is) and always has been. The only thing that's happened in the meantime is, when I was asleep it seems my ATV got disconnected from my Wi-Fi. I linked it back up again, no problems there, but its not worked since.

I've had similar problems for a while now. The loading library pinwheel would spin but never get anywhere. I could see libraries fine on the ATV but couldn't load anything. However, I could use home sharing to share music between my 2 computers fine. Everything else with the ATV worked fine. I even caved and got the airport extreme router but no improvement.

I saw the post about checkpoint VPN. I had that on my 6 year old ibook, and I had it installed in the past on my mac mini, but it was removed from that one. I uninstalled it from the ibook, rebooted, and now I can access my library from the ATV!

I checked on my mac mini that checkpoint wasn't there. however, I still couldn't stream from this computer. So I decided to try a fresh software install. I reinstalled 10.5, tried loading 1 cd and now the mini works too! Switched to the full library (~60GB) on a USB drive, and still everything is working. I'm still in the process of reinstalling all of my old software and still need to do the Snow Leopard to get back where I was before. will update this if one of the steps breaks it.

following up on my last post I had a marathon night of software installs. conveniently my mate was hosting a radio show on public access in the wee hours of the morning so I had a good reason to be up late.

I had the ATV working fine after erasing and reinstalling 10.5. Everything (music, movies, photos) streamed fine. Now I know the dsl router is fine, so the airport extreme is going up on ebay 🙂

-upgraded to 10.6, still works fine
-did all the other updates(Os and application) through Software Update and still everything worked fine.
-used time machine to reinstall my applications from before..... no longer working. the pinwheel just spins forever when I load the library.

So I've narrowed it down to an application that's interfering with the ATV home sharing. off the top of my head, I suspect it's VMWare Fusion since that's the only program I have that I think would have networking or firewalls involved. I'll try to full uinstall that to see if that fixes it or else start out all over...

So what would you guys suggest if the Library will randomly load at times, but most times it won't? All internet functions on the ATV2 work fine. I have tried every combination of turning home sharing on and off you can think of. I have reset it. I have no firewall on on the Mac.

I can not figure out why it will work fine occasionally. When it does, it's great. But then it will stop working for days.

I've had this problem of ATV2 not loading the library ever since I bought it in October last year.

I have posted many responses about it on many threads, but it still doesn't work.

I've bought a new computer, a new wireless router, and have all the latest updates, and still it doesn't work.

I've tried all the IP stuff and firewall stuff, and it still doesn't work.

I've been on to Apple support, and they can't help.

A power off reboot kicks it into life almost every time now.

I have an original ATV that works perfectly, so I tracked down another brand new one, and am using that. The ATV2 is now in the garage, where it occasionally gets used (for keep-fit videos), and switching it off and back on again isn't an issue.

I'm so frustrated that Apple make an ATV that works perfectly, then the replacement just doesn't.

Bob.
