THANKS!
this worked for me ..had the same issues...
I had the same problem. After two days of playing with settings, reloading software and reloading updates on the apple tv the solution turned out to be the security software blocking the port need to transfer the library. Ports are identified on the apple site. Apple tv working again !! Phew.....
assuming that all home sharing etc is turned on, quit iTunes on your computer and then re-open it while holding the OPT key. It will ask you if you want to accept incoming network connections. click OK as many times as you need to. I found that my remote app suddenly started to work as well (after months of trying other ways to make it work)..
i have this same problem have to quit itunes everytime i want to use apple tv thats the only thing to work ive tried everthing mentioned hope apple gets a fix for this i have 3 apple tvs kids use the crap outta them
I have the same problem with both my ATV2 and ATV3. I have to quit iTunes and restart iTunes before any of my ATV's will see my iTunes Library. At first, I thought it might be a problem with iTunes itself. I disabled the screen saver as well as disabled the hard drive from spinning down within Energy settings. That didn't do anything.
But I noticed the problem after a couple of ATV firmware updates. I disabled the ATV from sleeping and that solved the problem of having to quit and restart iTunes. However, I'm betting that it's not good for the ATV to have to stay on without sleeping so hopefully Apple will release a new firmware for the ATV to fix this issue.
Hope that helps.
I can get my library but not my apps. How would I get my apps
I've had to actually unplug my Apple tv and plug it back in after a few seconds, and then my entire Library showed up. Seems silly, but it worked. Also make sure your Itunes in open on your computer and make sure you're on the same wireless network on all your devices while you do this. Just turning off Home Sharing on my Apple TV as suggested by others, did not work for me. But unplugging it did. Hope this helps.
Hey all... I had this problem for about a week, and logged in and out of homesharing, rebooted by imac, and turned on and off my itunes. Nothing worked...
Until I read Jason's advice here. Doh! Just unplug your Apple TV and plug it back in again...
Eureka!
After going through all the steps mentioned, turning firewall off, iTunes off, rebooting both my modem and iTunes I finally got to the solution offered near the end of thread four. Turn your computer off, unplug it for a few seconds - I waited for a minute and when I unplugged the iMac I also unplugged the modem as both are on the same block. On turning back on my library was immediately found and working on Apple tv3. Sometimes the simplest things ...... mind you I think my isp may have been partly to blame and disconnecting both computer and modem may have reset the ip address - but what do I know?
Hello. I have two ATV3's and have been using them for months with no issue.
My Environment.
I use an Apple Extreme (latest version) and use two Apple Express's to extend my wireless network.
I have the latest IMAC which runs my Itunes library.
Last night out of the blue my bedroom ATV would not read my library. I tried the following without sucess.
- quite Itunes and restarted it
- Pulled the power on the ATV and plugged back in
- Shutdown the IMAC abd restarted
None of the above worked so I googled the issue and came across this forum. On someone's post I saw that some said there might be an IP conflict between an internal IP that Itunes uses and my ATV. So i figured I would manually change my IP. On the way to navigating to the network settings on the ATV, I thought I would quickly try switching the ATV from my 5 gigahertz network to the 2.4 one. (Apple Extreme allows both and I run both).
I guess this assigned a new IP to the ATV as after I did this everything worked fine.
BTW my other ATV still works fine without any changes.
Its weird to me that Apple has this conflict. I run all Apple products right from the network to all my devices so all this talk about Windows firewalls in the forum is a red herring.
I hope this post helps others out there which is why I am posting it.
I had this too on my ver 1 ATV (not the ATV2, but the one). Tired everything suggested in this thread, no go. For me it was a router setting on my linksys router settings. I was going to disable the Linksys router firewall, but first noticed on that setting that several boxes were checked as enable. One was "filter anonymous internet requests". I unchecked that box. And "filter ident port 113" was checked. I unchecked that. Not sure which or why but after making those changes in the router setting itself, ATV loaded my library immediately.
I suppose I should re-check these router setting after I use my ATV, just to be safe.
And I suppose I will need to un-check these router settings every time I want to use my ATV with connection to my iTunes lib on my mac.
So it this Apples problem to address, Linksys problem, or just something to live with?
Same here guys. Sudden failure of Apple TV fixed by turning off the Home Network part of Windows 7 Firewall. Thanks Microsoft!
I eventually solved this problem on the Apple TV by going to 'settings,' 'general' and selecting restart.
