Order of photos in slide show

I did just what you said but the photos still come out in randow order in the slide show.

What am I doing wrong?

Fix #1 did not work but Fix #2 did the trick. This was driving me crazy. I have been home ill and decided to use the time to get a few photo books out for my parents. Wouldn't you know it but the one time I feel raw and have no patience is the one time Apple tried me. Thanks again.

First select an Event, Albumn or Photos. Then go to the View menu > Sort Photos and sort the way you like. Then click the Create button (lower right of the iPhoto window) and select Slideshow. Your slideshow will appear in the left column under Slideshows and will play int the order you set.

Just clicking the Slideshow button at the bottom on an Evernt or Album will just play in show in random order, or in the order images were imported. In my case it was in the reverse order.

I was having a problem with this and finally with the help of Apple senior support I figured it out.

I had the same problem as everyone on this thread.

The only way I got around this without having to create a slideshow is by selecting the image I want to be the 1st (starting point) of the slideshow and then press the Slideshow button at the bottom of the window.

I have this problem when using the "Places" theme.

When I order them using a classic theme it orders them consistent with the Album. Fantastic!

However when I change to the places theme the order appears to change based on picture file name rather than order from the original album.

I have the same problem after updating to iPhoto 9.5. Nothing helps. So iPhoto is not anymore useable, because creating a slideshow for every album is not a solution.

And you can't anmyore start the slideshow in an album at a selected photo, because the slideshow is than only this single photo.

Also iPhoto 9.5.1 doesn't fix this problem.

I have the same problem here. One way I found to fix the problem is to sort photos by date (from view tap) and then back to manually. It will reorder the photos back to the way you ordered them and the first time you create a slideshow or hit play, it will keep the same order you created. The second time it will bug and show from the last photo.

This is how I got it to keep the photos in order.

Arrange the photos in manual order in an Album.

Select all of the photos and click the play (slideshow) button.

Pause it and click the gear (settings button).

In the (third) Settings tab, UNCHECK "Shuffle slide order" and CHECK "Use settings as default"

This worked to keep my photos in order when creating a new slideshow in iPhoto 9.5.1, at least for me.

I also, exported them and imported them with numerical file names and messed with Batch change (shift + command + B), but I don't think that had anything to do with it. I think it is "Use settings as default" that does the trick.

Were the photos in alphabetical order when you played the slideshow? I've not been able to duplicate you success with a manually sorted group of photos in an album. The following is what I've discovered and the bug was confirmed by Apple to another user.

There's a bug with iPhoto 9.5 and Mavericks in that slideshows from Albums do not play correctly if they are sorted manually. Only photos that have been sorted by date, keyword, rating or title will play from albums correctly.

To have a slideshow with photos sorted manually use the slideshow mode in iPhoto.

I exported them in numerical order and then re-imported them, so yes they were in order. I set them all to the same date in the Batch change. I didn't think that had anything to do with it, but I wasn't sure. In the slideshow mode, that where I messed with the setting the little hud and that seemed to work.

I don't understand why Apple don't fix this kind of bug in an update release!!! This application is so for many people unusable or have waste so much time with workarounds!!! When Apple won't change this manner I (and I believe also other) will move to other systems or applications!

Hey Apple, you produce software and hardware for us, we pay a lot of money for that, but when you don't fix so bad bugs soon (or other security bugs) you will loose us!

Here is how I created a slideshow using MacBook Pro w/ El Capitan:

1. File > Create Slideshow

2. When "Create New Slideshow" window pops up, type in name of Slideshow and hit "OK"

3. Hold down Shift button and click on Photos you want to appear in Slideshow, then click "Add" button in top right.

4. When Preview screen pops up, thumbnails of Photos will appear in little gray boxes below screen.

5. Click and hold on thumbnail of photo (NOT on gray box containing it) and slide it to wherever you want it to appear in Slideshow sequence.

6. Hit "Preview" button and watch Slideshow to make sure Photos are in order that you want them to appear.

7. Hit "Export" button and when next window pops up, type in final name of Slideshow project in "Save as" box and where you want Slideshow to be save in "Where" box, then hit "Save."

8. Your Slideshow will be saved under name you entered and where you wanted it saved
