PowerPoint 2010 keeps crashing when trying to edit text in a presentation. All other Office products seem unaffected. (I haven't tried them all, but I've been working in Access a lot lately and it has been working fine.) This had just started happening and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the latest Boot Camp update. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a 13" MacBook Pro (mid-2009). Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2009),
Mac OS X (10.6.5),
Also running Windows 7 64-bit
It is in fact a bootcamp (or bootcamp-enabled) problem. Installing the bootcamp 3.2 drivers themselves without the bootcamp layer works fine. Uninstalling 3.2 and installing 3.1.3 does NOT work.
It would be awesome if someone could post a driver tweak/mod - I have not had success uninstalling bootcamp in the past...
I can't believe that Apple got me AGAIN (after spending months without audio working properly on XP, I finally upgraded to windows 7 and everything has been perfect until today - now I cant do anything in PowerPoint!!!)
The best solution for now would be to uninstall Boot Camp 3.2, restart computer, insert Snow Leopard disc and install Boot Camp from that. For me, it installed Boot Camp 3.0. Once installed, I ran Apple Software Update and that installed 3.1. This is what I'm currently running without any problems in PowerPoint.
I did the same thing but my OS X DVD installed bootcamp 3.1 and the powerpoint problem did not go away. so i just upgraded to BC 3.2 and let the PPT problem remain (while I wait for apple to fix this). Then I bought office for mac 2011 and have started using that for powerpoint on mac, and the results are pretty good. I am going to stick with office for mac 2011.
Uninstalling bootcamp is very easy - just go to windows control panel, and go to uninstall programs and select bootcamp and say uninstall - it will do the rest - very straightforward. then you can install an older version either by downloading from internet or from the max os X DVD (on windows side).
Funny...
I have the exact same problem but when i uninstalled 3.2 and then reinstalled from the disc, it installed 3.1 (which is what I used to have) but the PPT problem STILL remains! I've confirmed that I'm running boot camp 3.1
My guess is that there is a driver still lurking around causing the problem? However, when I uninstalled boot camp ppt did work again.
I had the same experience - Reverting back to bootcamp 3.1 does not work, you have to revert to bootcamp 3.0.
Yesterday I went to the apple store and talked to the genius bar - they had no clue on what to do or where to begin troubleshooting, and said the best bet is to call apple support directly and open a ticket and get that assigned to the bootcamp group in apple software development.
I propose that all of us on this message board should call apple support directly and push them to resolve this.
I have had the same problem. BootCamp 3.2 kills powerpoint. Any text editing causes powerpoint to crash. Is Apple aware of this problem? Any fix yet, other than uninstalling the BootCamp partition and starting over, which is really not a good answer? I tried a "restore" in Windows 7, but that did not fix the problem. Evidently, restore does not change BootCamp, which is to be expected, I guess.
You don't uninstall the bootcamp partition and start over. You just uninstall bootcamp 3.2 software on the windows side. The partitions are not impacted, all you loose is some drivers for your trackpad. You can then install bootcamp 3.0 by downloading software on windows side, and things return to normal. If you install bootcamp 3.1 then ppt still does not work. The other option is to get office 2011 for Mac. I went to apple store to talk about this but they had no clue. Best other option is to directly call apple support an ask to talk to bootcamp group.
Found an easy way to fix this for now: Just go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features, and uninstall "Bootcamp Services". Removing it will disable your fn keys (volume, brightness, etc.) as well as the bootcamp icon in the system tray. But otherwise, everything else appears to work fine.
I, too have experienced this exact same problem with my Windows 7 x64 bootcamp partition. I upgraded to 3.2 and anytime I try to type anything in Powerpoint 2010 (32bit), it immediately crashes the program.
Uninstalling 3.2 bootcamp and reinstalling 3.0 restored PowerPoint for me. Please post about a fix!
Please advise: Are you planning on addressing this fix? Or are you requiring us to revert to previous version of BootCamp? Or do you expect Microsoft to address this.
