touch screen over-sensitive and going crazy! sos

i bought an iphone 3GS about a month ago, and for the last 2 weeks i'm having a real problem - everytime i'm trying to touch the screen, _the phone "feels" my hand from a distance, even before i'm touching it!_ i can't write SMS, notes or to phone people and read e-mails. everytime i'm trying to touch the screen, it decides for me on what i want press - trying to press on the letter "G" on the keyboard and it presses on "HHYFF", trying to open "calendar" and it opens "pictures", trying to read an e-mail and it erases it. it's seems like i have a really really over-sensitive screen, and i have no idea what to do..
please help me

This was driving me crazy. Unplugged iPad from charger - all fixed!

I thought my screen was going crazy because I moved a lot of apps to my sd card. Removing the plug was spot on. This also works for touch screen tablets. Thanks.

Hello,

Do you have a screen protector/cover on? Occasionally these have been known to dramatically increase screen sensitivity and decrease touch accuracy.

Is there any residue that remained after the removal? If not, take it to an Apple Store or authorized service facility where they can further evaluate it.

it looks to me as there's no residue left..
i will probably find myself at apple store (though i'm not sure i have a warranty even tough i bought it legally), but thank you very much anyway!

Hi

Have you done any basic troubleshooting?

1st thing I would be trying to to reset the phone. Hold the Home and Sleep button till you see the Apple logo. Allow the phone to restart and see if you are still having the same issues.

my friends dad is having the same problem, his fingers are like an inch away and it thinks he touched it, plz help thank you 🙂

I hear that! Been having the exact same problem for the last three weeks. Insanely irritating as it has almost rendered my iphone useless...

Any tips on a fix would be greatly appreciated 😀

I've got a replacement iPhone 4 and it's got the same issue-finger hovers over and buttons just go crazy-renders it useless- I've been told to reset but not hopeful

Hi Shimrit,

I experienced this issue just now and my iPhone4 is not jail broken. I figured that when that happens the metal on headphone jack had static on it.

I realised I had connected my charger and once I disconnected the charger it got resolved.

I wonder if this issue is related to residue of static which in my case was more temporary and in yours could be persistent. I could suggest earthing the iPhone by touching/ slightly inserting a wire to the headphone jack and touching it to a grounded platform.

Thank you...I think this was my issue also. I had my phone plugged in and the screen was really unstable. Even scrolling down on facebook would cause it to jump around and do weird things. Unplugged it and the issue is fixed!
