HDCP error and netflix apple tv 2

I am extremely frustrated... I've updated my firmware on my Samsung TV. I have a hdcp compliant TV and cables. I've reset/unplugged the tv and apple tv several times and I can't get rid of this error. Can anyone help me?

Ok everyone i am going to make your day!

This bloody HDCP error around netflix was really killing me. I went through this thread (and many others) and really struggled to get it fixed. I tried all these blinking cockamimi ways to try get it to work. I was pulling my hair out.

I went on to the Netflix site and they suggested you actualyl swap the ends of your HDMI cables around! Literally to put the TV one in the ATV and the ATV one in the apple. I thought this was absurd and had read a few suggestions like this alreayd on the post but thought they were crazy.

Short story made long. I changed the ends and WHAM! It's working! No more HDCP warning. Sigh. My night is so made! Hope i made yours too 🙂

I tried what crazydelilah suggested and it did not work for me. I did further research on this HDCP issue and it was suggested on another discussion board to unplug your TV and atv from the power source then plug them again with the atv being plugged in last. This will cause the sources to re-communicate with each other. IT WORKED!!!!

I hope this helps others.

For me, the problem started after we had a major electrical storm that happened when I was out of the house, so I couldn't unplug things. I live in Florida, so these things happen a lot. Despite having a great surge protector, I'm pretty sure my small 26" Vizio TV in the bedroom (that had the ATV plugged into it) had it's HDMI ports zapped. I was never able to use Netflix via ATV again after that. A few months ago, I got a new TV for the living room (46" Toshiba). Decided to move the ATV to that TV set. I got new HDMI cables (the cheapies from Amazon) and it works perfectly every single time. So, I can only surmise that my Vizio's ports are now unusable (unless it was the actual HDMI cables that were killed and not the ports), although the HD DVR works fine on it via HDMI.

My Apple TV has been working fine for just over a year. The other day it started showing the hdcp error. I tried everything, different cables, different TV, resetting the software etc.

I took it into the Apple store are they unplugged their demo Apple TV and replaced it with mine so it was a workinging setup. Same problem and they had no idea how to fix it.

They only thing they could do (as it was out of warranty by a month) was to offer a replacement box for £40 which seemed a reasonable deal but as it was classed as a repair it would only have a 90 day warranty. This seems a commom problem so I was not prepared to take the risk of that one failing as well. Very disappointing.

This problem began after the latest Apple TV update. It is NOT the HDMI cable. Some background. I have two identical Samsung HDTV's and identical Apple TV devices. I updated the ATV in the basement (this TV also has the higher end cables). Since the update I'm no longer able to playback movies from iTunes or Netflix on the ATV after the latest software update. The ATV I didn't update is fine. I've switched the cables between TV's, with NO positive result. I own two ATV's, we have 3 iPhones, two iPads, and two MacBook Pros. In the past year your software updates have ruined functionality on my iPad (no longer get email), my MacBook has become unreliable, and my son's iPhone 4S has all but become a pretty white brick. You guys have my money for now...Please fix this problem so that I may continue buying your products. I use Apple products mainly because they have a reputation for functioning reliably out of the box. This seems to not be the case lately. Thanks.

I HAVE FIXED THIS PROBLEM!!!!

I had this same HDCP error on my 47" LG LCD but ironically not on my older Samsung LCD. After reading much and being very p/o'd that I couldn't use my new AppleTV on my larger TV in my living room I discovered a possible solution that I'm happy to say fixed my problem and should fix most.

I saw on YouTube where several PS3 owners had the same HDCP error on their machines when they wanted to record movies of game play. They had discovered using this DVI+spdif to HDMI converter http://www.monoprice.com/Product/?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011405&p_id=5369&s eq=1&format=6#faq

that it would eliminate the problem. I just got the cables and the converter delivered today and BINGO! Problem solved. The box is about $40. You need and HDMI to DVI cable and a Toslink Optical cable to connect your Apple TV to the converter then the converter connects with an HDMI cable to your TV. Perfect 1080p connection with 2 extra cables and a $40 box. No it's not the perfect solution, but if you have a TV like mine that's supposed to support hdcp and isn't for whatevr reason working with AppleTV this will make it work. Hookup takes less than 5 minutes it's super simple.
