HDCP error and netflix apple tv 2

I am extremely frustrated... I've updated my firmware on my Samsung TV. I have a hdcp compliant TV and cables. I've reset/unplugged the tv and apple tv several times and I can't get rid of this error. Can anyone help me?

I fully agree, am extremely disappointed by my latest apple purchase. Apple TV simply does not work as it should. It is unacceptable to suggest constant rebooting, disconnecting cables, or resetting as some kind of solution. Every day I try and each time I receive the same error message. I have checked that my brand new Sony TV is properly connected & fully compatible with the most expensive HDMI cable possible. HDMI content works fine from other devices so why not from the ATV2? Through this device I can watch YouTube endlessly and I have successfully viewed some film content for brief moments before the error message appears. Switch off, wait a minute, reboot, reconnect, play again, it works for a few more minutes.... Then the error message. I have purchased a glorified screen saver with lots of pics, but that's as much functnality as I seem able to get.

I am now returning the product for a full refund as it clearly is fraudulent.

So did buy my ATV maybe one year before. Ist worked just fine after a firmware update I got the HDCP error with every video content. I tried everything to get it working again.

Then a lot of updates later it was working again without changing anything.

With THW latest update again i get this HDCP error and ATV becomes useless again. There isn't even a way to downgrade.

Here is some more information about the HDCP Error

http://tv.about.com/od/hdtv/p/whatisHDCP.htm

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a security feature developed

by Intel Corporation that requires the use of HDCP-certified products in order to receive a

HDCP-encrypted digital signal.

It works by encrypting a digital signal with a key that requires authentication

from the transmitting and receiving product.

If authentication fails then the signal fails.

I have a Projector that I use in house. I got a special convertor to hook my Apple TV up to it.

Keep in mind my projector is not an HD Projector.

I have no problems playing Standard Definition Files from my iTunes Library,

I only have the problem when I play HD files.

Netflix is giving me the HDCP error because the file types are defaulting to an HD type which my projector can not handle.

I am trying to see if there is a way to default netflix to nonHD formats.

I ran into this error with netflix, playing trailers, and playing movies I purchased in iTunes. The issue was resolved when we purchased a newer TV. (We were in the process of doing so before buying the ATV) The older TV we had wasn't HDCP compatible, even though Sony indicates so on their website. Basically, any TV older than 2008 will most likely run into this error.

I also ran into this when I paused a Netflix video and turned off my tv. When I attempted to resume the video I got this error. I tried several of the things other than replacing the hdmi cable, non worked. What did end up working was putting the Atv to sleep, changing the tv input and shutting off the tv. I waited a few minutes then turned on the tv, selected the atv input and was then able to resume the video. In my case it looks like shutting off the tv while the atv had an active video caused the hdmi communication to get confused. Not sure this will help anyone else but it is worth trying before investing in another cable or calling apple.

Found a solution. I had the same problem, tried resetting software, changing the caled, changing input. What finally did work was this. Go to settings and change the screen resolution from the output. Change it from auto to anything else. Then change it back to output. This 'refreshes' the video output. After this the netflix worked fine.

Hello Everybody!

I have been suffering from the same problem as everyone, and raked my brains out. I think I might have found a solution for most of these HDCP pproblems, for now. Not a miracle cure, not convenient, but simple and free. In most of our cases, the Apple TV will play normally when plugged directly to the tv but not if plugged to an AVR. So I plugged the Apple tv to one of the HDMI inputs on the back of the tv, which is already connected to the AVR with both an HDMI for video signal and an optical cable for audio, and that worked just fine before anyway (everything worked but the Apple tv). So now to watch and hear the Apple tv I have to switch the tv input to the Apple tv (HDMI 3 in my case) and it plays! Hope it works for you too!

This worked for me! Thank you so much. Mine started doing this after a bad electrical storm we had. Despite a good surge protector, I assumed my AppleTV got "zapped", but then I noticed that it was intermittant. Sometimes it would play and other times, I'd get the HDCP error message. SO frustrating! I didn't use it for the longest time except to stream from my iMac, but one of the main reasons I got it was to watch Netflix on the TV instead of the computer. Sometimes, I get hesitation in playback when I'm watching online as opposed to AppleTV. I just hope I don't have to do a reset every time. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again!
