HDCP error and netflix apple tv 2

I am extremely frustrated... I've updated my firmware on my Samsung TV. I have a hdcp compliant TV and cables. I've reset/unplugged the tv and apple tv several times and I can't get rid of this error. Can anyone help me?

I'm sorry. If it weren't for the fact that I'm so freakin' upset with my Apple TV, I would find this entire post and its replies laughable. Maybe I'm just cynical, but the fact that everyone has a different suggestion for how to "fix" this stupid HDCP error makes the entire thing that much frustrating. I am sick and tired of unplugging, powering off, sleep mode, switching cables, etc.etc. Almost feels like the next suggestion will be to rub your stomach, pat your head and hop on one leg at the same time. Like somoene said in an earlier post, these are not fixes. With each new trick, I get it to work for a little while and then the error comes back. I almost dread going to use my Apple TV because I know I'm in for a time getting the thing to work and whether or not it will work when i need it to seems to be a crap shoot. In general, I love apple products. But this entire post (and all other instances on the web) proves that Apple TV is junk and Apple needs to issue a REAL fix for this $100 hockey puck.

I've had my solution in place for almost a solid month with no plugging or unplugging. It's just fixed. I understand the frustration with apple but I would suggest that it's not all their faults. My newer LG LCD says it's hdcp compliant but it's clearly not. I've read on other sites that others have had the same problems with blu ray players. The compliance issue can be apple but also the tv manufactures themselves. And also apple is probably under pressure from the suppliers of the content especially HBO to have these safeguards in place to protect them from pirating. No one likes it but it's a fact if technology., sometimes you need an adapter. That's all this is. One simple connection between the ATV and your tv and that's it. Hook it up forget it and there's nothing left to think about. Frustrating yes, but fixable. For me I found it mind lowing that my newer LG had the issue when my MUCH older samsung LCD had no issue with hdcp. Go figure. It's also proof that this isn't a one sided problem that's all apples fault.

I hear where you're coming from, but it still feels like jumping through hoops. My apple tv was working fine for a few months, at which time I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. No doubt. And I was the first to tell people about it. But now-- especially since upgrading the OS-- it feels super finicky. And if extra converters, cables and other hijinx are required to make the thing work, then Apple should advertise it as such. For now, all of these "solutions" feel like workarounds, bandaids, coincidences, and luck---- and frankly, I'm done. I'm not an Apple hater, but maybe instead of spending so many resources on launching a new iphone every 6-9 months, they should spend a little time on refining this product so that it doesn't require so much tinkering on the part of the consumer. Just saying.....

I sorta see your point as we'll. I'll admit to being an apple fan since I got my first iPod touch. The tv thing. Obviously they didn't include the HDCP in their software update just to inconvenience people or make us all buy new TVs. They don't make any money on the TVs. I honestly think it's a situation where they updated to a newer standard and some TVs like one of mine are just a little out of date or have other problems. I mean seriously there are literally THOUSANDS of models of TVs in just the US not to mention internationally. It would be impossible to expect one device to work seamlessly with all of them. Maybe 20 years ago when it was a simple coaxial or RCA connection and the world was analog. But the times and the tech have changed. With digital connections we reap the benefits of 1080p definition and amazing surround sound. But it does come with the price of more complicated standards and connections. And when an incompatibility happens you step in and fix it. I'd bet that most TVs bought now and in the future won't have this problem they already support the newer HDCP standards. But for those of us like you and me with a tv still supporting an older standard we, like before all TVs had a coaxial connection, can use a simple adapter to fix the problem.

I'm not trying to minimize your frustration. I understand it. My Apple TV was a birthday present to myself. And when I hooked it up and did the update and started seeing HDCP error with everything I tried to do, and bought new cables, and searched and searched for a fix, I was very disappointed and frustrated.

I hope you'll try the fix it really should work because the box sends the correct HDCP signal to the Apple TV that your tv isn't sending. Like imsaid I've had it for a month without any need to hook or unhook or do anything. As apple would say. "It just works".

I have fixed the problem. I am loyal apple guy. I own apple stock, two mac book pros, an old white mac book, a really old apple II computer, 5 iPads (yes 5), 5 iPods, two iPhones and two apple tvs (gen 1 and gen 2). I tried every fix, new cables, restore, reset, on/off, several TVs (one brand new on November 7, 2014) to no avail. After several calls with apple support and visiting Genius store I was offfered a rebuilt generation 2 unit for $59. I didn't feel this was good enough considering how prolific the problem seems to be and that the problem started after software/firmware update. I get it, my unit is out of warranty etc, but it seems to be an apple caused issue. The problem with the fix is I can buy a new current generation unit for $40 more. This got me to do more research. In general most people recommended Roku. And for $85 that is what I did, I bought a Roku 3. It works great, no errors, allows you to stream Amazon and Vudu as well and now I am happy. Apple lost a loyal consumer on this one. I really tried to get a better solution from apple but they were firm with their lack of willingness to do more.

I had this same problem that just started a recently. I tried most of everyone's suggestions, switch cable, turn off, reset, all FAILED. My last resort is to buy a brand new HDMI cable which I have not done.

In my case, it came to mind that probably my apple TV's connection via wifi was weak. So, I connected my Apple TV to my mobile hotspot just to test it out and viola! I was streaming Netflix, hulu plus..etc.

So I reset my wireless router as new connection. Changed network name and password during the process. Then, connected my Apple TV again via wifi and sure thing.. it worked! Error free up to this date.

Just give it a try, if it doesn't work I can just assume that its a hardware issue.
