Airplay and videos in camera roll and photos app

Does anyone know if airplay allows you to push videos shot with the iPhone that are currently in the camera roll, or videos synced from iPhoto that are in different albums on the photos aPP?

Hello
i just tried ifiles on my 3gs and it works
here are the steps
*open ifiles*
*create a folder for videos in ifiles.*

*open video folder in ifiles*
*click on plus (+)*
*click on “from library” ( this opens the photo lib)*
*click on cam roll*
*click on the video footage that u want*

*the video will be compressed and added to ifiles video folder!*
*click on the video file and it plays with the Airplay option available in the controls!*the only draw back is that it does compress the video.
very easy very smooth

the other options in ifile are cool too. but have not worked on them a lot.
brought a few other videos in from my pc.. had to convert them to ipod compatible 640x360 mp4 movie

720x480 mov on the same video did not play back on my 3gs.. maybe iphone 4 can support this!?!?
if u try please let me know if iphone 4 can support 720x480 mov.

Hope this helps!

Same results-----Audio Only

File was an iMovie 2 minute video----created with video clips from the iPhone 4.

It compressed----looks great----but I only have the Audio Option in AirPlay

Tried the same procedure with a short 15 second clip that i had in the Camera Roll and had done nothing to it....

Same results----Audio Only

The only positive result I had was transferring the video from Camera Roll via Image Capture on my MB and then copying that into itunes as a movie. Then loading that onto my iphone. It plays in the .mov format: video and audio. So there has to be a way to move it into the correct directory. So unless itunes is doing something to the *.mov that I don't know about it, it would seem plausible.

I did some testing last night----I was really curious as to why AirPlay will not play video clips directly from the Camera Roll. earlier----I had speculated that maybe the raw HD video was too large for AirPlay----but then an individual said he had just imported a clip from the Camera Roll into iTunes Movies (no compression or conversion whatsoever)----and the clip played fine on AirPlay!

The key is to have it in iTunes Movies----which certainly defeats some of the ease of use and what could REALLY make this a Killer App…..

Anyway----I did my own unscientific test using a 31 second video clip on my Camera Roll in my iPhone4

Dumped the clip directly to my PC-----the just dragged it into the Movies portion of iTunes----then synched it back to my iPhone4 to play it from the iPod Movies section of the phone. I used my Apple TV hooked to my 42 inch 1080 HD TV through HDMI. The Apple TV is hard wired into a Wireless N Router (D-Link DIR-655) through Cat 6 cable.

The movie had these specs:
QuickTime Movie File
Size: 39.8 MB
Bit Rate: 64 kbps
Low Complexity
Channels: Mono
Total Bit Rate: 10770 kbps
Video Dimensions: 1280 x 720
Codec: H264
It played fine in AirPlay, but took a little time to load fully so I did not get starts and stops from streaming. Quality was excellent----once the stream had fully loaded and there was no starting and stopping.

I took that same movie in iTunes and used the Advanced Settings to convert it into a version suitable for iPhone/iPod display. Took about 30 seconds to convert and then synched that movie back to my iPhone4.

The movie had these specs:
MPEG-4 Movie File
Size: 6.1 MB
Bit Rate: 107 kbps
Low Complexity
Channels: Stereo
Total Bit Rate: 1636 kbps
Video Dimensions: 640 x 360
Codec: H264
It played beautifully in AirPlay, and streamed immediately and VERY quickly----No starting and stopping waiting for a stream to catch up. Quality was acceptable----but certainly not the quality of the uncompressed clip.

Finally----I converted the same raw clip in iTunes once again----but this time I used the iPad/Apple TV setting for conversion----and once again----synched that movie back to my iPhone 4.
The movie had these specs:
MPEG-4 Movie File
Size: 14.7 MB
Bit Rate: 107 kbps
Low Complexity
Channels: Stereo
Total Bit Rate: 3954 kbps
Video Dimensions: 960 x 540
Codec: H264
The movie streamed in AirPlay very quickly and was beautiful. I could not tell the difference from it and the uncompressed version on my HiDef TV.

Same results from the iPad.

Conclusions----well---the uncompressed WAS slower to stream and had a bit of starting and stopping....

Maybe that is why Apple has not allowed the capability

Call me a sucker. AG007 who posted the instructions registered for Apple Discussions on Nov. 24 (today). Well, since I'm here, does anyone have some oceanfront property in Arizona they'd like to sell me?

P.S. I think the iPhone and iPod touch have Android beat in most ways, but at least Android marketplace gives you a 24 hour return policy on purchased Apps, no questions asked. I know, it's just $2.99, but still...

The App looks like a fine little App----too bad people go to those lengths to make a few bucks more...

he suckers 1000 people tonight----because this IS a hot topic....

And he added to his price....

Rather shameful

Agin though----the App looks pretty good.

If the shoe doesn't fit AG----you have my apologies-----if it does----I used to box a little in college back in the day-----an intramural club----but I was pretty good and I don't think we should ever meet.....

Why would anyone do all this? If you want to watch your iPhone videos just sync with iPhoto on a Mac. Your iPhone videos will automatically appear on the Apple TV and there is no compression or anything and they do not have to be added to iTunes. Until Apple enables Airplay for these videos this is the easiest method. This method was enabled with the recent update.

It's just a simply one time sync so I have no idea why anyone with go through all the hassle of trying to dig through files on the iPhone or move them to iTunes or any of that stuff.
