iPhone 3G better performance on iOS 4.2?

So I didn't know 4.2 was coming today and I downgraded my moms 3G to 3.1.3 yesterday. It's night and day from iOS 4.0 which is what she had. Of course she lost her contact and pics but I can get it back once I update to the newest version. I wanted to know before I updated to 4.2 to see how it's working on everyones iPhone 3G. How's it responding to open safari, settings, apps, texting, emails? Thanks!!!!

Quite a few reports say 4.2 improves things further. Not every one was happy with 4.1 performance improvements although it's definitely a step up

Not too late for me as i've not upgraded 🙂

my question really is, is ios 4.2 now comparable to 3.1.3 on the 3g performance wise. I would think it's not but would like to hear from other people who know for sure

Speed wise it's fine.. unless some folks have superhuman powers that can detect millisecond speed differences.

4.x has a larger software footprint so your reported space will decrease to 6.90GB. 421 is safely comparable to 313. I know a lot of ppl are still in shock with post traumatic stress from 4.0, but it's over now.... time to move onward.

Just upgraded from 4.1 to 4.2:
I'm still having the annoyingly calendar startup, with the freeze for some seconds, blank for some seconds and then after 7-9secs it’s working. And I agree, this is not a synchronization problem, try a simple thing like go to month view and then switch to the next or previous month. It takes forever (read 3-4 secs 😉 before the appointment-dots shows up on the new month… in airplane mode…
Otherwise the phone feels a lot snappier after the upgrade to 4.2

I updated to 4.0 when it came out. HUGE mistake. Thank goodnes 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 came out quickly. Performance got better but battery life sucked. 4.1 was a bit better but still kind of laggy and slow. Battery life was better though not as good as 3.x.

I updated to 4.2 last night and so far it seems to be snappier for me. Things move the way they should. Keyboards appear faster and are available to type on more quickly. Now if the battery life issue has been addressed this should be the best 4.x release yet.

I don't seem to have the calendar problems others are talking about but I don't have tons of appointments on my calender and I use Googles calendar not Outlook which could make a big difference.

Mail downloads just fine and hasn't been a problem so far.

Tried to edit my post to add this but apparently I am not important enough to edit my own posts yet.

Anyway, I just spent about 10 minutes looking up a couple of addresses on Maps and it appears that GPS still ***** the life out of a battery in no time at all. Battery dropped from 98% to 73% in just a few minutes of using the Maps app. Oh well.

I just updated the other day from 3.2 to 4.1 and it is a vast improvement for the most part. Notes is still incredibly slow.
I did a reset (Home and Sleep/Power until the Apple icon came up), then I restored and took the new iOS.
Should I do the same with 4.2 or shouldn't the rest be necessary?

Besides folders and camera zoom, are there any other features added with 4.1 or 4.21?

I assume AirPrint and AirTunes are no go for the 3G?

Yes, even the new 4.2. Maybe it's fine for others, but it slowed my phone and my husband's phone to a crawl. I am downgrading his phone to 3.1.3 right now. I don't think the 4.0 update was ever meant for the 3G. The processor simply cannot handle the update. The features that 3G users get are okay, but I'd rather have a phone that runs smoothly, which is why I chose to downgrade my phone and my husband's phone to 3.1.3.
