Mail won't rotate when I turn iPad sideways

This happened to me as well. I fixed it by holding the power down until the ipad powered off. You,ll see the red arrow at the end slide it to off and the unit will power down. Then restart the unit in a normal fashion, email should work after this.

That should be hold the power button down until the unit powers down.

I would like to know why this keeps happening though. I can fix it but having to continually shut down the application is very frustrating. Reminds me of a buggy windows application.

Wow, some serious attitude and a$$hhats on here. How the fock are you supposed to know the mail programmers are ***** and you have to force quit and reset? What kind of dirtbag a$$umes a newbie would figure out its due to poor programming? Just saying'...

Seriously??? First time I post and yes that does make me a newbie but I really appreciate the sarcasm Donkulouos. I am frustrated that it keeps happening and it should not. Apple's specialty is their interface, this apparently is happening to quite a few folks. It happened on my old iPad 2 and its continuing to happen on my new Gen 3. I just want it fixed that is all....

Some people have serious issues...one person ran me down for something the first time I posted...oh, not knowing the UG for the iPad is a bookmark. For gosh sakes, I've never had a UG for any hardware in my bookmarks unless I put it there. Course, it's a great idea, but if you never known that before, why would you look for it there!

I agree, the instructions work, but why don't they (Apple) fix the problem, for goodness sakes!

Perfect solution, it worked a treat.

As with most problems on iPad or iPhone, power off the device fully the reboot. Problems usually solved.

There,s a switch on the upper right edge, by the volume control to turn off or on the rotation feature.

Same issue on my iPad running iOS 6.1.3 and the instructions to force quit the mail app works like a charm. This is a very annoying Apple mail bug and should be fixed as it shows that Apple's quality is degrading.

New here also. My toddler managed to block rotating of the email. Could not find how to solve it before i read this. It worked!!! THANKS !!!

Though I keep wondering how it got blocked....is it a bug?
