Mail won't rotate when I turn iPad sideways

Does anything else rotate?

No issue here. Your rotate lock is now a software function through the task dock, as apposed to the switch on the side/bottom/top. Is it possible rotation is actually locked?

I had the exact same issue. Solution is just to shutdown and then restart your iPad. It should work after that. If not, then check the rotation setting in mail:

Open Mail
Double-tap the Home button to bring up the multitasking bar
Swipe the bar to the left
Tap the circle/arrow icon to unlock or lock the screen rotation (a lock appears when locked)

I am having the same problem. I have double checked the rotation lock and have tried full power off and restart of iPad. Only mail is not recognizing portrait mode and stuck in landscape.

This solution did not work for me. Lock button is unlocked, all apps rotate except Mail. Mail is stuck in landscape.

Any other ideas out there? Thanks.

I, too, am not able to have Mail rotate, while all other Apps that should rotate do so. Mine is stuck in the landscape mode, and has been ever since the update 4.2.1 was applied. It is a minor problem, but this is definitely and issue for some. I have a 30 GB 3G model.

I also have a problem with rotation in Mail. It is stuck in landscape but the other apps rotate and lock with the software new switch.

I finally powered off and on. The mail screen now operates properly.

Try forcing Mail to quit and see what happens?

While in the mail app do the following:
-Hold down the power button until "slide to power down" is shown
-Let go of the power button and hold the home button until the mail app closes.

press and hold the Sleep/Wake button down until you see the red “power-off“ slider—but don’t slide this time. Instead, press and hold the Home button down until the app quits and you find yourself back on the Home screen.
