iPad won't sync photos

I just upgraded to 4.2 and my iPad will no longer sync my photos from iPhoto.

They synced just fine before I upgraded but now I get an error:

"Some of your photos, including the photo "IMG_1402.JPG, were not copied to the iPad because they cannot be displayed on your iPad."

Some details:

-these photos synced just fine before I upgraded to 4.2
-the photos are all in my iPhoto library
- I recently had the hard drive on my imac die so it was just replaced with a new one
- I used Time Machine to restore my system

Any help is appreciated.

Lee, I can't say how to fix your problem, but I do think that as long as you can still see the base image files within the iPhoto Library folder (under Pictures), you may need to right click and Show Package Contents to see it - then your photo history is not lost. This may set you at ease a little and here's a screenshot of what I mean. I suspect the problem is to do with relocated folders or deleted caches.

I am so stupid! I was following some help on the forum because I couldn't sync photos with upgrades so I did what they said, delete photo caches. Of course! How could I be so dumb? How dumb am I? I should have known. That's when it happened! I was tired and working on this for hours and wasn't thinking.

Is there a way to put the folder back? It's sitting in the trash, but not emptied.

my ipad wouldnt let me put any photos at all onto it ! was very frustrating, but i deleted the ipod photo cache folder off my computer and it seems to work fine now... just hav to do one album at a time... but the process if very very long and is taking forever. its been about ten minutes and only 143 out of 1049 are "optimizing"

This didn't work for me. I followed the directions to remove the ipod photo cache, but when I Control-clicked the Show Contents...nothing appeared that was an ipod photo cache. so I couldn't delete it. My photos all synced from iphoto to my ipodT until I decided to clear up some room on the ipodT by NOT syncing the photos. Now, I can't get any of them back.

What now?

Thanks.

I am new to the iPad, but I thought Apple devices were supposed to be easy and intuitive. I find the inability to sync all of my pictures to be a hugh problem. I have tried deleting the "ipod photo cache", resetting my iPad, all to no avail. Some pictures sync just fine, others do not. Steve Jobs would be rolling over in his grave if he knew what a mess this is. How can I get support for this? Why don't the Apple people do anything about this widespread problem?

I tried everything in this thread and the only way it worked for me (it took hours) was to upgrade my iPad to the latest update (5.0.1) then I opened iPhoto on my desktop and added the 5 folders to "albums" and then went back to sync in iTunes "from iPhoto" and selected only the 5 albums in the list of albums (not the "events" list) Voila, it worked. The weird thing is I never had to use iPhoto to sync pictures before today or before this update.

Here's what worked for me.

I use Lightroom for editing my photos. Based on what I read elsewhere, I exported at an image size of 2048x2048 pixels at a resolution of 200 pixels per cm.

I had the same photo syncing problem everyone else in the thread is reporting.

I went back and changed my export settings to a resolution of 150 pixels per cm. I haven't completed exporting all photos yet but so far the ones I've done are all syncing just fine.

So it appears to me that the issue may be one of image resolution. If your software allows you to adjust this, try downsizing that and see if it works for you?

I can add further information about SpikeHDs resolution suggestion.

I had a folder with around 350 photos in it, trying to sync with iPad (the new one) for the first time. Only about 16 photos would actually sync. These 16 photos all had resolution of 2592 x 1936. The other photos were all much larger, 5616 x 3744. I resized the photos to be all 2592 x 1936, and all synced without problem.

I had previously tried the deleting ipod photo cache and it did not work for me.

I find this workaround to be frustrating however, to say the least.

This is also surprising, seeing as both of these resolutions seem to be higher than the resolution of the retina display, which I gather is 2048 x 1536.
