How to Factory Unlock iPhone 4?

I bought an iPhone4 recently in the US, WITHOUT CONTRACT, but its still AT&T locked. I bought it AT FULL PRICE, so i practically have a VERY EXPENSIVE IPOD.... how can i contact Apple to unlock my iPhone4? it is not fair and even unconstitutional (since i paid full price).

Please reply ASAP.

First and foremost, ALL U.S PURCHASED IPHONE is carrier locked to AT&T, REGARDLESS if you purchased it as a no-contract price. There is NO official way to unlock the U.S iphone. Apple and AT&T does NOT unlock iphones.

You probably have to sell the iphone on EBAY and post that it is an AT&T (Locked) iphone. If you are within 30 days, send it to a friend in U.S and have him/her return the phone for you.

If you knew that U.S iphone are carrier locked, you wouldn't have purchased one here in the U.S and thus purchased in a country where they sell factory unlocked.

That is false. As has been said several times now, AT&T does not unlock an iPhone under any circumstances, for any reason, and never has. Either you misread or whoever said that was spreading incorrect information.

One again: there is no legitimate way to get an AT&T-locked iPhone unlocked.

Regards.

well, then i guess i'll have to jailbrake it, and then unlock it.... too bad they havent come out with an unlojavascript:void(0);ck for baseband 2.10.04... any news on that?

Nobody here can tell you about the jb + unlock, as it is not supported by apple and is against the ToU, you are going to have to google yourself and find what's best for you if you ever plan on doing this. Keep in mind that whatever happens, warranty will be voided, as it is only a country specific. So if something happens to your phone, you are out of luck.

Hey..i hav bought an iphone 4 on the way back to my country a week before and i paid full price assuming that it would be carrier unlocked. I have already opened the box and tried to activate. Can i return the phone.

so you bought your phone in U.S for a full price thinking that it is unlocked? I'm sorry to tell you that no matter if you bought it a contract price (199/299) for a no contract pricing (full price), that it is still locked to AT&T, no official way of unlocking it. Apple and AT&T in U.S does not unlock the iphones.

I may ask, what was the reason why you purchased your phone in U.S and not in your country?

Since you opened it, if it's still within 30 day period, you can return it back in U.S but you will have to have a friend or relative or if you know anyone going to U.S. There will be a 10% restock fee to return it. If you are past 30 days, you might as well just sell it on e-bay and post that it is an U.S AT&T phone.
