How to Factory Unlock iPhone 4?

I bought an iPhone4 recently in the US, WITHOUT CONTRACT, but its still AT&T locked. I bought it AT FULL PRICE, so i practically have a VERY EXPENSIVE IPOD.... how can i contact Apple to unlock my iPhone4? it is not fair and even unconstitutional (since i paid full price).

Please reply ASAP.

No there aren't. Only the network to which it is locked can 'factory' unlock an iPhone.

These shops are charging you £80 for something you can do yourself for free after a Google search (if you don't mind voiding your warranty).

when the original iphone and the 3g came out in the uk, they were locked to O2, who didn't unlock them. however, as soon as the other networks in the UK were able to offer the iphone, O2 started unlocking them.

maybe now Verizon will be selling the phone, AT&T will start unlocking them??

Doubtful.

O2 started unlocking iPhone's so customers could take the phone with them to another UK network if they wished to (a somewhat unusual business decision!). In the US, this isn't possible as an unlocked AT&T iPhone would be useless to someone wanting to switch to Verizon, due to the incompatible networks.

the thing is that THERE IS NO INFORMATION on the apple.store site that this phones are locked to AT&T. It is written that this phones will work with ANY GSM-service provider. This is a misrepresentation by apple. I have such phone and if I won't get it unlocked I will probably go to court.

Unfortunately, for you, it's stated clearly on the box that it REQUIRES service with AT&T.

Hi,

I m using iPhone 4 in india bought from UK, on O2 carrier. Can anyone please suggest a website which would help me permenantly factory unlock it...i went to a shop in here who told me it is possible but asking for approx 75 UK Pounds, which i believe a bit too much to be true. And i know that this can be done by myself reading through this entire thing, just need a little help with the correct website.

Your information is incorrect and your understanding is faulty. No web site other than one run by O2 themselves can help with unlocking, and any third-party site that claims to offer "factory" unlocking is lying. Only O2 can authorize the unlocking of an iPhone locked to them. You will need to contact O2 about getting your iPhone unlocked.

That is the only way you will get a phone locked to O2 UK unlocked officially.

You have to be in the UK for that link to work, and the iPhone has to be active on the O2 network in the UK for O2 to process the unlock request.
