How to Factory Unlock iPhone 4?

Have you not read the thread? The subject was covered extensively over the last several months.

FYI. Apple can unlock it!

I bought a fully unlocked iphone 4 in Australia. I took it into a Las Vegas Apple Store to get it replaced under warrantee. They in turn said all that they could give me was an ATT locked phone. I argued, they looked up my support contract, and it showed that I had purchased a fully unlocked iphone, The genious bar tech took 45 mins to unlock it. He told me he hadn't done it before but he'd give it a go. Sounded like he was following a procedure from an Apple KB article or something. He did unlock it. I use TMobile. It is not jail broken. I recently updated it to OS 5

Apple cannot unlock iPhones that were under contract to AT&T and hence were activated to that service. Apple can apparently, in some very limited cases, remove the lock from a new iPhone that has never been activated. But Apple cannot unlock an iPhone that was activated to AT&T. Can't Be Done.

Every iphone has a unique NCK (15 digit key) to ulock it. These NCK are matched with H/W id's unique to each iphone. Apple has a database of this, and can mark a phone as factory unlocked. Then as you connect your iphone to itunes, the servers check the H/W ID and send its NCK to unlock it.

My suggestion to those who have fully purchased an ATT locked iphone and are in a different country, become friendly with a GB tech at an apple store and ask if they could mark your iphone as factory unlocked 🙂

Any Apple Store tech who did that would lose their job in a heartbeat; trust me on this.

People need to realize that it is not the point that apple can unlock the phones. Apple is the manufacturer, of course they can unlock an iPhone, it is their product. The point is that Apple produces most of its iPhone for the carrier, which are locked to that carrier. Yes apple does sell the phones unlocked too, but those that are locked to the carrier are to be used with that carrier only. Unless the carrier decides it is ok to unlock it for you, otherwise it will not happen. In the case previously discussed, you actually originally bought the phone unlocked, you would be entitled to a replacement that was also unlocked. So there is no problems with using their stock and unlocking one to provide you with what you where entitled too. Everyone else that bought the phone with carrier, you agreed to use it with that carrier. That is the end of it.

Every one is talking about at&t, other talk about their own contract and we assume that its Ameirca. I bought my phone in Japan, and I can not unlock it at an Apple store nor at an At&t store nor can I go back to Japan and get it unlocked there. I was told that the phone could be unlocked or at least locked at the carrier in America, when I aquired about it before I left.

The point is, now that there are many carriers that can be used by iphones there should be NO reason for there to be locked phones. It does not benifit At&t, other carriers nor Apple to lock phones to a carrier and not have them be locked to another one later on anymore. If I want to have my phone unlocked that I bought full, I should have the opportunity to do so. One reason why I bought the phone was so I could use it where ever I went in the world. Now I can't.

I hope that Apple can appreciate this and realize that they will gain more customers if they offer to unlock phones. I am sure that their main carriers are the problem at this moment it time. Maybe At&t could get their heads out of the sand and see that shackling customers to their carrier does not keep customers, it hinders their customer relations.

I wish to not unlock my phone by Jailbreaking it, nor by using software or gevey. But if it is the only way, I may have to. It is sad that Apple has not help for their customers of their product and that they are bullied into locking their phones by these carriers.

Whoever told you it could be unlocked was misinformed or lied. You should have done your research before you made the purchase. You can purchase unlocked phones in the US. Sell your phone on e-bay or elsewhere and buy an unlocked phone.

Apple CAN NOT legally unlock phones locked to any carrier. As for the US and Japanese carriers, they are not going to change their attitude because there is no financial incentive to do so, and there is no law requiring that they do so.

As for jailbreaking, it can't be discussed here. You should be aware that the Gevey SIM is illegal in every country on earth. I'm not talking about some silly civil somebody's going to sue you illegal, either. I'm talking about the police will put you in handcuffs and haul your backside off to jail for using it illegal.

Who are you to decide who posts and who doesn't?

I think you mis understood me and my point. I know what is the issue with my phone. It has nothing to do with Japan or Ameircan policies.

As for using Gevey, if it was illeagal as you said than they would not be a business and if you think it is as you says, than I would like to see the law you have found that in.

These are not legalities from counties these are corporation decisions that need to be changed.

There is a difference.
