How to Factory Unlock iPhone 4?

I bought an iPhone4 recently in the US, WITHOUT CONTRACT, but its still AT&T locked. I bought it AT FULL PRICE, so i practically have a VERY EXPENSIVE IPOD.... how can i contact Apple to unlock my iPhone4? it is not fair and even unconstitutional (since i paid full price).

Please reply ASAP.

THe carrier I had was in Japan and they told me that I could get it unlocked once I came to america. SO saying that only the carrier you had can unlock it is not true either. Its not like I can go to them now that I am in America and ask them to unlock my phone, the carrier is Japanese!

They lied to you, go back to Japan and take it up with them.

Your information is somewhat faulty. Apple has not choice in the matter. If it is carrier locked, ONLY the carrier can legally authorize unlocking it.

In the US, it is not a crime for an individual to modify the firmware of the phone to unlock it. It will, however void the warranty. An Apple employee can not initiate an unlock of an iPhone without a request originating from the carrier it is locked to.
