@capaho I had a 1st Gen Apple TV. I had it set up as only a streaming device. iTunes extras played perfectly fine on it. I would have though Apple would have addressed this by now.
Unless Apple are working on this, the only way we'll see it on ATV2 is if enough users request it and voice their disappointment in the feature downgrade compared to ATV1:
When is this likely to be sorted out, I continue to buy iTunes LP's and Extras in the hope that I can soon play them on my Apple TV 2's, there was no issues with the first generation streaming them so that's not the problem, I've sent feedback a couple of times already, Steve Jobs apparantly said that it's "coming" but when?

There'll probably be AppleTV 3 before we see this on AppleTV 2, but perhaps I'm just being cynical.
Not that I am in throe know, but I fully expect an AppleTV HD launched later this year, or an iOS update to bring it to the current model. My guess is new hardware.

We really have no idea about new hardware but as AppleTV is now based on iOS, if the phones are anything to go by, the latest iOS versions will not be compatible after a couple of years with the older hardware so likely we'll see more rapid hardware refresh of AppleTV line in future.
Thing is neither feature actually needs full HD or more power under the hood as the older AppleTV 1 handled these aspects quite adequately. They just haven't been implemented.
this is beyond a joke now, who watches itunes extras or itunes lp's on their pc, the apple tv is the place where I definately want to view these, why do apple continue to sell these features when they are basically useless? it's been over a year now and still no support
Funnily enough I was browsing itunes and it listed the latest Tori Amos album as itunes LP.
It did not mention AppleTV1 as a playback option - one of the features of this album was supposedly downloadable scores for the music - something AppleTV1 would not be able to handle.
I just hope they don't kill off support from itunes for LP on the older AppleTV if they are adding newer incomptible features.

It seems there is a half-way fix here. If you're playing the extras for a movie in iTunes (I'm playing the extras from the latest Harry Potter movie), you can use Air Play to play them through Apple TV 2. Still frustrating that you can't see them in the Apple TV library, though.
Apologies to be dragging up such an old thread, but the lack of support for iTunes Extras and LP is really disappointing. Given that the Apple TV 2 can now mirror the screen of a connected iPad 2, and that there is no functional difference between iTunes Extras/LP and a web page displayed in Safari using many of the webkit CSS stylings, (or, indeed, the very transitions and translations that are used to create the Apple TV 2 menus themselves)there should be no barrier to iTunes Extras appearing on the ATV2. The problem, I think, would exist in that many of the multimedia files used to create the extras content would not have an Apple Library ID, as they exist outside of regular content. With no library ID, on a device that is designed primarily to stream and that's it, accessing these files becomes a bit more challenging.
Personally I think Apple should develop a "hidden" classification for their media files to sit alongside "Song", "Movie", "TV Episode", etc, which will allow a file to be accessible by iTunes, but not appear to the normal user in their library file listings. And while I think the entertainment industry has gone over-board with DRM, such an approach would allow studios some degree of protection for their "extra" content. At present, with the files sitting outside of iTunes' regaular managemnet procedures, there is no digital protection on these at all. This lack of copy protection is one of the reasons (in my opinion at least) that the format has not seen greater embrace by the industry - there is simply no copy protection on any of the special features, so what is provided usually is of low quality, and low interest. So usually I am left purchasing the DVDs, purchasing the iTunes movie, and then copying those special features into iTunes and developing/adapting the menus through which to reach them. Which can be tedious. VERY tedious!
More and more stuff from iTunes seems to have Extras or Lp content - I honestly wonder why when ATV1 is the only practical way of using it. Fingers crossed.

So incredibly disappointed. Just went to watch Bridesmaids extras on my Apple TV 2 and discovered I couldn't. This has seriously got to be fixed - SOON.
This is one of the biggest reasons I bought an apple tv, I assumed the extras would play on it. I never bought movies on iTunes before cause it felt pointless if I couldn't watch the extras on my tv. Now incompletely regret buying apple tv. If they're too concerned with constantly upgrading their processor speed or some other crap rather than giving their customers what they obviously want most, then I don't know where I stand with apple. This is just applet their stupidest.
If we took a poll of what all apple tv owners would like to see on the next upgrade, listed every plausible option anyone could reasonably expect, do you think ANYONE, anyone at all, would actually choose anything other than to have iTunes extras and menus on the the apple tv?
No way, who cares about anything else this product could offer until we get the extras we all expected in the first place?
Still no iTunes Extra with Apple TV 2?
