HP Laserjet CP1525nw and AirPrint

I have a brand new CP1525nw which is on the list of supported printers. It has the most up to date firmware available. My iPad is running the most up to date version.

I am unable to print to it with my iPad. A windows desktop can print to it wirelessly. When I try to use my iPad i simply get "No Printers Found"

Have i missed something? Any thoughts or ideas?

May not help at all but, when I installed my HP C410a the printer recognized that a wifi existed; however, until I made the network "visible" from the desk top temporarily it would not accept correctly entered SSID and password data. When I made the network visible it instantly recognized the SSID, quickly accepted my password and begun working perfectly with the IPad on wifi direct (and with the email option as well).

I made the network SSID invisible again after the installation and it continued to work fine. Can't explain it but that was my solution. Hope it helps,

Mike

I'm on a Cisco unified wireless network with 1142 APs and a WLC2106 running 7.098. I can reach the printers with my iPad/iPhone etc with an IP address but something must be blocking the Bonjour broadcasts. I turned broadcast forwarding on in the controller but still no luck. If I set up a generic AP on the network I reach the printer fine. Is there a multicast DNS or broadcast setting that you know of that would prevent Bonjour from discovering the printer. I know Apple uses Cisco's solution in every store and has the same controller. I have to think someone at Apple knows what configuration on Cisco's solution is blocking Bonjour from working...

Paul,

AirPrint requires Bonjour, so any setup that blocks Bonjour (Cisco or others) will have a problem. Apple is well aware of this. The Photosmarts/Envys/Officejets all support AdHoc wireless so you could connect from the iOS device directly to the Printer. I'm looking into see if the CP1525 NW does as well. I'll get back to you when I find out.

Just trying to help.

hey Paul;
I am having the same issue with the 2106, I am starting to think that it doesn't support multicast. I have another friend that is using a WLC in an ISR and it didn't work until he created a BVI and bridged the traffic. I am thinking that I may try a 5508 and see if it makes a difference. Let me know if you figured anything out.

Thanks

Mark

I was having this same problem, other than the printer could be seen from an iPhone 4.

I was able to resolve by changing the iPad to my 5 GHz network. Once I did that, the printer showed available and I was able to print. After changing back to my 'normal' SSID, the printer no longer was listed.

I'm using an AirPort Extreme base station if that information helps.

Hi all,

Just to chime in - I had the exact same issue but in my case, it was printer-related. When I first installed everything, I got the No Printers Found. I downloaded an app "ROZeroConf" (free btw) which is basically a Bonjour browser for iOS. I checked and I could see my printer but only with _printer but no _ipp (which is why it can get picked up by desktops but not by Airprint). I checked the printer and it showed that all protocols were enabled. I went ahead and updated the firmware on the printer (12/2/2010) and now I get _ipp in my ROZeroConf browser and everything works. I think the big questions to troubleshoot are:

1.) Is your printer advertising _ipp via Bonjour?

2.) Is something between the printer and your iOS device filtering that?

Note - I use an Airport Extreme as my router. Hope that helps,

Drew

PS: When updating the firmware, my printer's static IP got reset to DHCP. Just an FYI in case you try to reconnect after update.

I just bought an HP Pro CP1525nw printer. Getting it to work via USB took me 5 min, getting it to work with AirPrint for my iPad and iPhone took 2-3 hours. Part of the problem is if you're running Lion. Below are the steps for anyone that may need help in the future:

When you get your printer out of the box, the CD that ships with it will not work with Lion, consider this a free drink coaster. Instead what I recommend is connect the printer to your Mac using the USB cable. It will discover the printer and ask to download the driver from the App Store, this is good, let it do it. After it's done your printer will now work via USB.

The next step go on HP's website and download the firmware update for the printer. This is a .dmg that you will execute and it will install the latest firmware for the printer. You can also do the firmware upgrade by going to the printer options under the apple icon in the top menu bar. It's important to run the firmware upgrade.

After I had done all this I ran into the problem of how do I change the SSID of the printer so it can get on my network. Unfortunately, you can't change it when connected via USB and using the HP drivers/utilities for Mac or Windows. You also can't change it via the little monochrome display on the printer itself. The only way you can change the SSID if you want to use AirPrint it to connect the printer via an Ethernet cable to your wireless router. Once you do this and reboot the printer it should display it's newly assigned IP address.

Go to this IP address via a browser window and in there online console you can change the default SSID and if your network uses WEP, you can add the WEP key there. Also, if your wireless router does MAC address filtering, make sure and add the printer's MAC address where appropriate. Once this has been set, turn off your printer, unplug the Ethernet cable and relocate the printer back to where you had originally wanted it and turn it back on. Then turn on the wireless and it should now be able to connect, it will get a new IP address and display it accordingly on the printer's display. At this point, once the blue light is solid on the front of the printer you should be able to find it via your iPad, iPhone, etc.

If you still can't print to it, it's probably because your wireless router isn't friendly with Bonjour and you just need to configure Bonjour support for local traffic.

Hope this help,

-Troy

1) Update your printer firmware (20110329) its enable airprint

2) Connect your printer to Mac and try to print, if its work, than you can print by airprint

3) Make shure that your printer and iOS device in the same wi-fi network

4) Switch off printer and iOS device

5) Turn on printer, then iOS device

6) Try to print 🙂

For me its work 🙂

p.s. you can switch on air mode on your iOS device and turn on only wi-fi, sometime 3G network couldnt help to find wi-fi printer.

It's possible to use free software (Virtualbox and Ubuntu) to fix the broken iOS 5 Airprint printing with non supported printers. Here's a fix that works on my imac, but should also work on even a windows pc.

My setup is a lion imac with 2 non-airprint supported usb printers attached, a belkin wifi router that provides network connectivity for my imac, ipad, and iphone.

Install ubuntu 11.10 in a virtualbox vm. Specify to use the "Bridged Adapter" with "en1: WiFi (AirPort)" for the network hardware. Make sure the imac's usb printers are setup with sharing. On ubuntu, select System Settings > Printers and add your imac's shared printers to the list. Then start ubuntu's firefox and set "localhost:631" in the address. On the administration tab, under the Server section, check "Share printers connected to this system" and hit Change Settings button to activate it. Go back to ubuntu's printer setup, and right click on each printer and check that the properties Policies tab does not have any messages about it being unshared. If so, then go back to firefox and make sure the Server sharing checkbox is enabled. It may help to reboot.

Fire up virtualbox to be able to use AirPort printing to your imac's usb printers, when you want to print from the iphone or ipad. This also works on iOS 5.

Only problem is error message from iphone to check the printer for errors, even though it actually prints ok.

Paul

i am having the exact same issue

i have 2106 WLC and 1131ag access points, did you ever get it working ? i am sure that it has something to do with broadcast domains

i have the printer hard wired on the wireless vlan (we only use 802.1x) for wireless auth and the printer doesnt support it.

are there bonjour options inside of dhcp ? like an ip help address for out of vlan dhcp assignments?

I was able to do this by connecting the printer to the Ethernet port on my Mac...I figure most people would rather do this than schlep a 40lb printer from their desk to a router 🙂
