MacBook Air Memory upgrade

I completely agree and understand, although I knew I couldn't upgrade anything I was told that with all the solid state and flash memory it would not be required. Worse than all that I was told there was no plan to put thunderbolt on the Air nor were the keys going to be backlit; guess what happened a mere 6 weeks later. I am at the mercy of the Best Buy Manager as to if they will swap me out to the latest version. I didn't buy the upgrade protection as I wasn't told it was to be upgraded as a laptop a few weeks later; I am a little ticked

This is, howerver unfortunately, the inherent nature of any technology purchase. People at an apple store don't know and certainly cannot comment on what new products may be coming down the pike -and certainly those at a bestbuy do not. There are some ways to check if a product lifecycle indicates that a new model MAY be due, but that as well is never certain. over on the macrumors forum you can find a listing of macs and when they were refreshed or newly released and it will give a bit of a semantic buy/wait/hold recommendation. Apple has in the past made concessions for 30 days, but not more than that. I doubt bb would do as such but you might just get lucky.

I am not going to get a new thunderbolt Macbook Air.

iMAC with thunderbolt is perfect. Because iMAC have good fan flow the heat so keep iMac cool.

iMac is use for heavy load such video, large files.

Right now I do not have iMAC, iPhone and iPad/ipod.

I do have Macbook Air it does not have thunderbolt.

I do not have any complains.

I am going to buy a thunderbolt iMac for my home use.

After that I am going to get a new iPhone 5. I do still have Curve Blackberry/w Google Sync App.

So that help me to wait for get a iPhone LTE/NCF.

Wise Budget.

Get a Apple TV unless I get iPhone LTE/NCF.

I know Apple Produces have good more time life.

If people say "I am PC".

I say to people PC is a machine.

If people say "I am MAC"

I say to people that is a machine.

I'm sorry that you did not realize that MBA ram is not upgradeable, but how would you like that message delivered?

If you can document what the manager told you then I would go back and argue for a new one, if it is your word versus his ..... try hard to be convincing.

FYI Best Buy have no experts on anything on staff.

I have a bulge in the middle too, but sadly my MBA does not 😟

Is this still true of the mid 2011 Macbook Air? (the non upgradeble RAM issue that is)

Because... Apple online info for MBA says the following under the memory specs;

" $999 model configurable to 4GB, only at the Apple Online Store."

suggesting that at this point in time you can walk in to a macshop with the 2011 MBA 2GB model (having decided it's not quite FAT enough) and have it 'upgraded' to 4GB...?

It means just that... you can only get that option if you order it "online"... not in the store. There are a number of configurations that the stores and retailers carry. If you want options that are not standard, they are built to order. The RAM is still soldered directly to the logic board and cannot be up upgraded after the machine has been manufactured.

LOL... it's easy to mis-read stuff sometimes... When I first glanced at your comment (namely the "my dufus-ness") part, I thought you were posting in German or something... it didn't quite "click" at first. 😁

The DDR3 chips used in the 4 GB version are K4B2G0846C-HYF8 so one just has to find some normal DDR3 DIMM with these chips on it, find somebody with a BGA rework station and give him/her some money to replace the 16 Ram chips on the Macbook Air Logic Board with the bigger ones. A friend of mine has a ERSA BGA Soldering euipment, I will ask him how much that would cost. Perhaps one could even use 16 K4B2G0446C-HYF8 chips which means 8 GB RAM.
