I just installed the apple tv update and now Netflix tv genres only shows suggestions and recently added. This makes it very hard to browse around for new shows. Is there a way to get this functionality back quickly.

I imagine you have tried endless solutions to try and fix this already as generally ATV users do. But have you tried logging out of netflix and then back in again. I myself still run 4.1 have not yet updated to 4.1.1 as the general feel is that it is a bit buggy!

it's no more buggy than v4.1.
in fact v4.1.1 fixes 2 things that some might think are important!
Yes I have tried logging in and out of Netflix, restarting the applet tv and I am still missing the TV genres (except suggestions and newly added). The movie genres still appear so it seems like a conscious decision by apple for the TV genres to be removed.
Regardless of wether the new update fixed some bugs, the functionality of the Netflix app has been severly downgraded in this area. I'd like to know if I am the only one experiencing this issue, and if this is the case I'll do a factory reset and re-update.

Not likely, or we'd all be seeing the same problem. My update went without incident. Nothing seems to have changed.
I just did a factory reset and set everything back up. This did not fix the problem. ***** that I'm the only one experiencing this issue.
I guess I'll email apple support and hope they can help resolve the issue. Although I imagine this won't go anywhere...

you may want to contact Netflix support, as they are the ones responsible for the content.
Just did all the updates this morning myself and all is working well with my Netflix. I must say, when I bought the new ATV I thought the Netflix thing was a bit of a joke, but I have used it a lot and now think I might upgrade my other ATV too to have Netflix on the main floor as well as the basement. I am quite surprised at the picture quality depending on the show and think it is a pretty good deal for the monthly cost. It streams no issue for me, no buffering or anything. I'd say it was a good move on Apple's part and proved once again that it's a good thing I'm not in charge, as I never would have added it to the new ATV.

That may be the case but it broke one very important feature in myappaddictions setup. The point: if you device is working properly don't be so quick to perform an update you may just break it....
I am having the exact same problem spoke to Netflix and they don't know what to do they are deactivating then reactivating my account but that won't happen for a few hours so will let u know then. Very frustrating.
Sorry to hear your having the same issue but I'm glad I'm not alone on this. Apple support called me but hung up on me while I was explaining the issue. They have not called back so I'll schedule another call. Will let you know if I can get this resolved via apple. I eagerly await your update on whether the Netflix reset worked.
I'm having the same problem here. Please let me know if you are able to fix and how. I will try on my end also and keep you posted.
I have the same problem, it totally crippled my netflix. Not sure what to do.
I too am having the same issue. It seems that sporadic genres are missing from the movie are and multiple genres are missing from the TV area. Not sure how to fix or what to do. Please keep us all posted. Will try to email Jobs as well for a resolve... we'll see what the boss himself has to say.
I will add myself to this group. My wife noticed this. I did the latest update and she noticed the Romance was not on the Movie Genre list anymore (and thus romantic comedies). So I have to jump to my iPad and check what is there. I wish Apple would give us the power to setup the genres we WANT to see and not what they provide. I was totally shocked to see a Gay and Lesbian section in the Drama category- that is one filter I did not mind them having- now they took it away.
Maybe they will read these boards and decide to give us a better Netflix interface (or customization).
