Printing Coupon from Coupons.com and Bricks

Ok so all of a sudden this morning printing coupons at both of these websites did not work. Every-time I goto either website it says I have to install the coupon printer. I have downloaded this before because I was able to print coupons before today. I tried using firefox, safari, and google chrome none of them worked. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the coupon printer and no luck. Anyone ever have this problem before when it all of a sudden stopped working? If so any help is much appreciated and Happy Holidays!!!

Hi

the message to say you need the printer software is driven simply by recognition of the CouponPrinter-Safari.webplugin placed in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ which should also show as active in Safari-Help-Installed Plug-Ins

it was updated in at least Feb 2010 & contains 10.6-specific code

If you see it in the folder, but not the 'installed plug-ins' list - test in a New User Account

I guess you're not on 10.6.5 then, since that came with Safari 5.0.2
The installed plugin data appears to be ok - I can only guess that somehow the site isn't recognising it.
I wouldn't expect that to be due an older Safari version, but perhaps coupons.com will advise, if you can raise them 🙂 or just grab the 10.6.5 combo update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324 followed by Safari 5.0.3 from http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

If anyone could offer some advice not already listed in this discussion, I would really appreciate it. I apologize now for the long post, but I don't want to waste anyone's time writing posts back and forth that cover stuff I have already tried. 🙂

Here's my situation:

  • I have a MacBook Pro (version 10.6.8) and use Safari (version 5.1.2). I made no changes or updates, but I stopped being able to successfully print coupons using the Coupons.com printer in mid-December (I can still print every other type of coupon). It literally worked one day and wouldn't the next. I say successfully because my printer will spit out something. It says I have printed the coupons but all that actually prints is the top half of the coupon with the special security border and the barcode missing. If I have selected multiple coupons at one time to print, the only thing that does actually print is the top half of the first coupon on the page.
  • When I try to print the test coupon that Coupons.com provides, the entire coupon is missing but the graphic with the two bottles and the logo WILL print.

Here is the troubleshooting I have done:

  • I have uninstalled the Coupons.com printer (using the correct uninstaller) and re-installed it numerous times. I have downloaded the program using both Safari and Firefox (downloaded just for that purpose).
  • Each time I install the program, it tells me that I have intalled it correctly. When I try to print, I am NOT prompted to install the program.
  • If I change Safari to 32-bit mode, NOTHING will actually print. A blank page is waiting for me in the printer tray.
  • My Mac is totally current on all updates issued by Apple.
  • I was using a wireless HP All-in-one printer in December when these problems first started. I double-checked to make sure that the driver for the printer was current. (It was.) I bought a Brother HL 2240 laser printer last week for cheaper printing (only paid $10.65 brand new at Staples!), and have had the same exact problems as when I used the HP.
  • I used a WPA2-AEP secured network to send print jobs to the HP when the problems first started. Using an unsecured network or simply plugging my Mac into the printer using a USB cord did not make a difference.

Obviously, there is a disconnect happening somewhere. I think it's interesting that I can get everything but the security features (including the barcode) to print. Maybe this is the root of the problem?

Of course, I have attempted to contact Coupons.com. I have sent three emails, receiving only two replies--both of which being the same pre-fab email JustBranches5 posted. I have tried calling a supposed customer service phone number I found on their site but, not surprisingly, no one answered the phone. Even if no one can offer any suggestions or advice, if anyone has a phone number for Coupons.com customer service that actually works....you would make me very happy!

Thanks y'all!

I just checked their website and the system requirements say "Mac OS 10.4 and higher" - that usually means they have not updated their software since 10.4 and it may or may not work on the latest Snow Leopard.

So, here are two suggestions:

1. Contact their support and ask about their compatibility with 10.6.4, and/or
2. Simply do a screen shot of the coupon and then print it from Preview.

I do not even see the plug in in my computer's library what should I do?

If there's no coupon plugin together with Flash & Quicktime etc in
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

and you can paste that into Safari's address bar to be sure... along with
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

If it's not in either of those folders - Safari won't know it exists & the site will prompt you, as you've seen.

If you've downloaded the installer & the plugin file wasn't placed correctly - I would firstly check that those folders aren't 'locked' by using Finder-File-Get Info & ensuring that the checkbox is not checked.

If you do see the installer run & complete its work - and yet there's no sign of the plugin, you are using the one downloaded from coupons.com? 'MacCouponPrinter.dmg' ?

No sign of errors in the install.log of Console ?
That's a log-viewing app found in Applications/Utilities/ - open it up, scroll down the left pane until you see '/private/var/log/' then open it & check for obvious error messages in 'install.log' within that section.

and email coupons.com, yes 🙂

Hi

That's odd, I tried moving the file into HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ & it was recognised by the website as soon as I restarted Safari - you did that?

and this is the same HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder where Flash & quicktime etc plugins are ?
select them all & copy them in Finder, then paste the list here - perhaps there's one that conflicts with the coupons printer.

Hi
did you have a good one?

Yes thanks, I trust yours was too 🙂

it's hard to say what's up - I know the safari one works here with Flash & the usual mac plug-ins, so it's possible there's a conflict with one of your others. The only way to see is to try, by moving all the others out then restarting Safari.

If your list is complete, you're missing 1/2 the Flash player pair.
Does Safari-Help-Installed Plug-Ins show any of them active ?

& we've almost certainly covered it, since other browsers are the same - but you do have plugins enabled in Safari-Preferences-Security ?
