Printing Coupon from Coupons.com and Bricks

Ok so all of a sudden this morning printing coupons at both of these websites did not work. Every-time I goto either website it says I have to install the coupon printer. I have downloaded this before because I was able to print coupons before today. I tried using firefox, safari, and google chrome none of them worked. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the coupon printer and no luck. Anyone ever have this problem before when it all of a sudden stopped working? If so any help is much appreciated and Happy Holidays!!!

I tried removing all of the plugins except the safari coupon printer but no go

Hard to know what to say - I presume other plugins work, and show in Safari-Help-Installed Plug-Ins, just not that one...

What are the regular mac plug ins that come with the computer?

Flash Player.plugin (not on very recent macs)
flashplayer.xpt (likewise)
Quicktime Plugin.plugin
Shockwave... (again, presumably not recent ones)
Quartz Composer...
nsiQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
Java

Should I restore my computer to factory settings (?)

It's an option, but I'm still not clear on whether or not other plugins (when in the right folder) work for you, and if they & coupon-printy one show up in Safari-Help-Installed Plug-Ins... do they?

Install Flash (or replace the files) Quit Safari - test Flash at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Now, make sure it shows in Safari-Help-Installed Plug-Ins, and (for now) is the only one there...

Then, place Coupon Printer for Safari is in that same folder as the Flash, restart Safari, and it should also show up in Safari-Help-Installed Plug-Ins

If not, and testing in a new user account is the same - I can't offer any good explanation for it - but your plugins being in the wrong places suggest that something messed with the setup, and that a reinstall would be a help. It's fairly painless on 10.6, and should retain all your settings & apps etc, just needing to run software update afterwards to get back to the latest version.

Would be handy if the coupon site got back to you.

Here's what Safari 5 looks like for me (ignore the debug menu, that one is an optional extra)

I were to restore my computer I put in my original leopard disc not snow leopard and just install it again?

I'd reinstall Snow Leopard from the dvd that came on - usually that will replace the OS without affecting your apps & settings etc, just requiring the 10.6.5 combo update + whatever else software update suggests afterwards.

I downloaded the combo update and got the new safari however, it still will not let me print coupons I tried uninstalling the coupon printer software and installing it again and still nothing? Maybe is there some kind of firewall blocking it? Because it shows up perfectly in the safari internet plug ins. I just do not see why it happened overnight like this? Thanks for all your help!

Hello there, I am having the SAME problem... and I am not computer savvy at ALL. I have been printing coupons on my imac since I've owned it, and then a few days ago, I go to print a coupon and it tells me to install the coupon printer... so I do that, and it goes to the same screen. So I've uninstalled and then installed again, and then uninstalled again... and then installed again. Then I tried shutting down the computer and then restarting to no avail. What is going on??? I can't live without coupons!!!

I saw similar problems with safari, but it worked in firefox. Another forum post suggested running safari in 32bit mode, which worked for me.

From finder, navigate to the Applications folder. Right click on safari and choose 'get info'. Check the box labeled 'Open in 32bit mode'.

As an aside, Firefox doesn't have this problem (presumably it's still running in 32bit mode by default). Coupons.com needs to update their software to reflect 64bit and it should be fine for native use.

would there be an issue with the security settings on my computer?

It's possible - yes

Presumably the site uses javascript to detect the plugin - which we know you have, since it shows up in Safari-Help-Installed Plug-Ins...

but sure, maybe they check something extra that's potentially blocked by security software - I don't have any, and most all settings are default, so it's hard to say for sure. But if you do have security or anti virus, or firewall software running - try without it.

I've been having this problem for a few months and it has been driving me crazy. Safari (5.0.3) shows the following in the error console when I get the page telling me to install the coupon printer (which I have installed):

Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://www.coupons.com/couponweb/Install.aspx?pid=13306&zid=iq37&nid=10&pt=KKiGE rAkBW33716015184 from frame with URL http://couponbar.coupons.com/adblob.asp?AdSize=728x90&pzn=13306iq3710&sectioncod e=INSERTSECTION_CODEHERE&req=1295134649432&zip=30066&did=H&spage=Install&npage=undefined. Domains, protocols and ports must match.

I'm not sure where to go next.

I have never been able to print coupons using coupons.com's plugin..."MacCouponPrinter."

This has been true for several years now and 2 different versions of OS X --- 1.5.x (Leopaed) and now 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard). Every once in a while I try again because I've gotten some offer of interest, but I ultimately simply give up, delete the coupon printer again and add that coupon supplier to my list of ... "don't bother with this vendor, just delete their emails, they are not worth it."

I've canceled subscriptions I have had to several different vendor's mailing lists (Friskies is the most recent one) because they regularly send me coupons I can't print. And I won't put up with Vendors who think the world revolves around Microsoft and are too ignorant to test their offerings with anything else.

I simply don't have time for the aggravation.

I've visited the coupon.com website/faq as mentioned earlier in this thread. Nothing but a bunch of generic information... virtually all of it for Windows.

Their MAC FAQ section says even less. It's quite clear they do not use Macs themselves and contracted their programming out to someone at one time and think it still works, but haven't tested it themselves since then.

The symptom is always the same... the plugin installs. ... It does something. ... Nothing prints. No errors, nothing. ... A retry claims the coupon has already printed the maximum number of times.

Everything else prints with no issues.

The printer queue never shows any items.
The CUPS log never shows any attempt to print anything.
The System logs shows the installer apparently successfully installing, but then nothing.

One gets the distinct impression they are trying to hack the operating system to bypass the OS's printing control system and take control of the printer directly. No wonder it doesn't work. That technology went out with DOS.

I'm not aware of anyone running Snow Leopard and Safari 5 who can successfully print coupons using coupons.com's printing mechanism.

For whatever its worth, I've been printing coupons from coupons.com since I got my Mac last year. I am running Snow Leopard (10.6.5.) as I haven't updated to the 10.6.6 yet. and am running Safari 5.03. The coupon.com printer is the first one I installed after getting the Mac. (I too need to have my coupons and can understand how frustrating it can be to not be able to print them). I don't know why it works, but thought I ought to say that it can and does work, so there must be an answer some where. I checked my Help Plug Ins and what it says is
Coupons Inc., Coupon Printing Safari Plugin
CouponPrinter-Safari.webplugin — from file “CouponPrinter-Safari.webplugin”.
I didn't even know that was there before reading this forum. I don't have many plug ins so maybe that is why it works.
Wish I had an answer but I am really a novice when it comes to how my Mac works. Most of what I know I have learned from reading the forums.
