iPad Reads "Not Charging" with iPad Power Adapter

Hi,

When I connect my iPad to the 10W USB Power Adapter that came with my iPad, the iPad reads "Not Charging" but actually is charging. Half an hour later, the charge goes up. Also, when I connect my iPad to my Mac (which isn't extremely old - only a 2008 model), it does not charge and it's not recognized in iTunes at all. I have tried restarting the iPad, computer, and held down the Home/Power Button for 10 seconds until I see the Apple logo. I've performed all system updates and before this issue, I had updated my iPad with iOS 4.2 with the same computer.

Tech Specs:
iMac Early 2008 - Mac OS X 10.6.5 - iTunes 10.1.1
iPad - iOS 4.2.1

Thanks for any help!

I'm having a similar problem. I have a six month-old corporate iPad which has been synching and charging just fine up until yesterday. I had it connected via USB to my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) most of the day, and it seemed to charge fine. But later in the evening I connected via USB again and the iPad displayed the "not charging" message and the battery drained very quickly. I then connected the iPad to the AC adapter and it still displayed the "not charging" message even after a good 15 minutes connected with the power off. I left it charging last night via AC while powered down and it only had 80 percent of a full charge after 8 hours of juice.

I have soft reset the device using instructions above and, of course, restarted my MacBook. The iPad is not recognized by the MacBook and charges very, very slowly only if connected to AC power.

Looks like there's a trip to the Apple store in my future, too.

Just to update on my situation with the "Not Charging" message displaying and the iPad not fully charging even on AC power, powered down, for eight plus hours: I took the iPad to the Genius Bar near me today and the tech did a couple of tests and determined this was a hardware problem, so he replaced the iPad on the spot. This was the easiest return/repair I can imagine with a computer-- Apple really does know how to run a store and provide good customer service.
