Facetime will not log in?! - New ipod - Help!

I can not figure out for the life of me why facetime will not activate! I have successfully set up a apple id and am logged into that fine...but when I click facetime on new ipod touch it keeps giving me message: "can not sign in please check your network connection and try again"

But that makes no sense...Apple ID is fine and I have strong wifi where I am. I am surfing web just fine...but facetime will not activate. What can I do??

Thanks in advance!!

I am experiencing the same issue with my iPod Touch 4g that I received yesterday. I tried both my Apple ID and another email that I set up and I am getting the same message. There's no "resend verification email" under Settings > Facetime for me either, I just get the original log in screen. I have restarted and reset my iPod; still nothing. So disappointed.

Sidenote: Tango voice call app isn't working for me either, and I deleted and reinstalled.

Welcome to Discussions, Dianicia

(1) If "the same message" you get when you try to activate tells you to +check network connection and try again+, consider the suggestions in this topic:

http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12244207

Several suggestions there have worked for different users who have experienced this error message since before the busy Xmas eve/day activation period.

(2) If other connected apps (Safari, iTunes, YouTube, etc.) don't work for you either, try refreshing your wi-fi connection by toggling your iPod's Settings > Airplane Mode ON and then back OFF.

If connected apps still do not work, your wi-fi network may need troubleshooting:

I went to the other thread and someone had suggested to change my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and it worked. For anyone else experiencing the issue, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > whichever connection you're connected to > change DNS to 8.8.8.8 then turn airplane mode on for a few seconds and then back off. My Facetime as well as my Tango video call app works now.

Yep I am in your same boat raspberriez.o. NOTHING works. I've tried standing on my head doing all suggestions just to see if that works. Nothing. I can't for the life of my believe that just switching the airplane mode on and off would work. What sort of device would that be if that actually did work?

I am on with apple tech support again now...Will let you know the results of this call (again). It's been days since I've talked to them last and at that time they said the servers were over taxed. Wonder what the issue is now. Stay tuned.

how is it going? did you get it working? there were also suggestions for you in the various other threads you were posting in about this issue: the 'facetime issue' and 'verfication issue with facetime' threads. please let us know if you tried the other ideas, if you got it working and if so, what you did to get it working. thanks.

Nope. Nothing still. Dead facetime. Nothing is working. I am going to the apple store today to try their network. If it works there than who knows! apple said on the phone yesterday that it was my router firewall....?? I can't believe I would have to change firewall settings to get a device working! And besides...My iphone works just fine using facetime on SAME wifi!

I tried this and it worked! You have to make sure that you reset the wireless by either disconnecting from your wifi or turning the airport setting on the off. Make sure you let it sit off for a couple of mins before turning it back on. Great tip and we all appricate the help.

OK, just did a test at the Apple store and low and behold the ipod's facetime worked! Drats. Do this means it has something to do with my wifi router. Keep in mind that my iphone works just fine on this router doing facetime. So strange. Regardless Apple support said this is possible for one to work and not the other. In any case the router is the issue and has some sort of firewall settings that is not allowing facetime to work from the ipod. I have a very old router and tried to correct these settings but to no avail. A new router is on its way!

Incidentally I tested it down at my friend's house and facetime worked on his router. So everyone checked your routers. At the very least do a restart or reset of your router if your facetime is still not activating. Then go from there.

phew
