(1) If "the same message" you get when you try to activate tells you to +check network connection and try again+, consider the suggestions in this topic:

Several suggestions there have worked for different users who have experienced this error message since before the busy Xmas eve/day activation period.
(2) If other connected apps (Safari, iTunes, YouTube, etc.) don't work for you either, try refreshing your wi-fi connection by toggling your iPod's
Settings > Airplane Mode ON and then back OFF.
If connected apps still do not work, your wi-fi network may need troubleshooting:
