iPhone 4 alarm not working since 01.01.2011

iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1 alarm not working since 01.01.2011. Tried different settings such as turning off automatic update and changing location. Nothing seem to be working. Any solution?

I don't get why some here claim people depending on their iPhone alarm is somehow lame.
Its an alarm. It has ALWAYS worked multiple times in the past without issue. And for some it becomes their main alarm device.

WHAT??? A red 8" x 8" 20# alarm would be better? Or maybe a blue alarm that works on solar energy? Or perhaps a yellow alarm that your mother handed down to you in a will?

Just how many clocks and different types of clocks and alarms does one need, if not the iPhone alarm, to qualify as "alarm issue protected"?

I would rely on my iPhone alarm before I would the old wall current AC plug in type of clock, since power failures and short power glitch usually mess up your AC powered clocks MUCH more often than an battery operated iPhone clock. A battery iPhone device that BEEPS when its battery is low or about to fail.

And as to someone getting fired from work over this issue... It is very possible.
Maybe they were on the line holding down that job, and being late just once was the last straw?
Or maybe they suffered too many power outages causing their AC powered clock alarm to fail, and already had many late marks against them, so they depended on the iPhone alarm?
It could happen.

The iPhone has many uses, not just as phone. And these devices are much more dependable than other devices when it comes to clocks and phone and data services.
In todays mobile world, depending on a single all-in-one device is not that unusual.
When a feature fails due to software glitches, this can have serious impact.

I've used my iPhone alarm for years to time breaks at work so i clock back in on time. This method has worked without issue for years. Having an issue popup out of the blue like this alarm failure, can be a serious matter for some very mobile people, and average every day people.

You rely on your car to get your to work... How many have a driver in a second car following close behind, just incase your main car breaks down on the road?
Like I said... Just how many types of clocks and alarms does one need to be covered?
I think one should be enough. Especially when that one has proven more reliable than other options.

So when that long term old reliable fails because of some manufacturer stupidity flaw, people get really upset. And they should be!

"Ok, so it was supposed to start working again today (3rd). How come mine didn't go off then? "

That's what I've been saying, the issue is not clarified yet. It didn't work for me on Jan 2 with a recurring alarm, and it didn't work on Jan 3 with a normal alarm.

Yes if I set it five minutes from now the alarm will go off but overnight it doesn't seem to work in the morning.

NighstandHD works fine, by the way, and you don't have to keep the app running in the background for alarms to go off.

This is ridiculous. My alarm failed this morning for the first time in 2011. Other alarms (recurring) seem to be working, but one I turned "ON" last night didn't?

Are we supposed to guess which ones will work and which won't? People cannot be expected to periodically create new alarms after mysterious dates... I've read several "solutions" ranging from just wait for 3 Jan to power off/on and create new alarm (and what is "reset" alarm? On/Off? change time? too vague).

Its a simple alarm: it just needs to work.

Well someone does - because a slightly non-Apple related question of mine was "removed' within a very short time yesterday with this below as the reason --

Mine wasn't working either. I had about 25 different alarm settings. I know, a little crazy.

Anyway, I deleted several of them that were close in time, so I have about 18 settings now, but the alarms now appear to work! 🙂

I have been trying to get the alarms to work since yesterday, so out of curiosity, I deleted a few just to see if I had too many alarms. I'm not sure if this is the answer, or something else has come into play.

This morning........I have an Iphone 4 and my wife has a Iphone 3GS running OS 4.2.1. This morning my alarm went off 7 minutes late on my Iphone 4 set to wake me up at 0700. On the Iphone 4 I had set the recurring alarm setting for every day. As for my wife's Iphone, her 3GS alarm was set for 0600 but it never went off. She is now late to work by over an hour. It appears that both the Iphone 4 and the Iphone 3GS are having the same alarm issues. Both our alarms were set from scratch last night prior to going to bed they were not old saved alarm settings. Can Apple provide any fixes for this issue soon? As for now I cannot rely on the this working for tomorrow's alarm!
