Alarm doesn't work since new year

Yesterday my alarms were working perfectly, today (Now 01/01/2011) they don't work at all. The time comes and goes and the alarm doesn't activate.

I am running iOS 4.0.2 - I never updated after hearing of problems with alarms funnily enough.

If I add a new alarm it doesn't work; if I modify an existing alarm, it doesn't work.

What's going on?! Help.

3GS, iOS 4

9To5Mac has an update to this topic:
http://www.9to5mac.com/

"According to multiple users expressing their frustration through Twitter, come New Years 2011 (where ever you are) your iPhone alarm clock won’t function correctly. You may recall a similar bug in iOS when daylight savings time switched on but this is exactly the opposite. This New Year’s 2011 iPhone alarm clock bug shows its face to users without recurring alarms.

This means that anybody who sets an alarm just for tomorrow won’t be woken up by the iPhone’s built-in alarm clock application. To avoid this issue you need to set a recurring alarm by tapping repeat to select the days you want the alarm to go off on. Apple is yet to say anything and it is still unknown whether this is iOS 4.2.1 only or if it affects past system versions too. Be sure to tell everyone you know with iPhones! (via Engadget)

Update: We just ran a few tests and the above iPhone alarm clock issue fixes itself on January 3rd. You should follow our steps to avoid the issue above until then. Reader Aaron F. has let us know that the issue is occurring on his iOS 4.1 iPhone 4 as well. Let us know if you see the issue on anything earlier."

Hi,

iPhone Details: 18 months old 3GS running 4.2.1

Thanks jcowboy for the link… and the post. Let's hope all turns out well on the 3rd Jan 2011.

Before checking here (silly me) and in case it was a Problem my end, I took the following Steps:

1) Thoroughly Checked all settings

2) Reset

3) Hard Reset

4) Restored As New…

(I didn't bother Restoring from Backup in case there was corruption on the phone.)

Needless to say, None of the above worked in resolving the Issue.

I have sent Feedback to Apple via this Link:

Cheers

Yep me too. 3GS with 4.2.1 in GMT+10, existing single-day alarms for 1/1/2011 failed to sound.

Seriously Apple?

Yes, internationalised date & time arithmetic is more complex than most people realise, and there can be external factors as well (e.g. carrier auto time updates).

However, this isn't exactly rocket surgery. It's a pretty well researched & understood problem. OK, individual implementations will have their own unique bugs, but it's not like there isn't a vast array of test cases and development techniques freely available to discover or avoid most of them.

Post Y2K, professional software developers and testers who don't do even cursory date & time rollover testing could only be described as negligent. For the world's largest technology company to ship another rollover bug just a few months after the DST bug affecting millions of users is just embarrassing.

zdnet reports that this is a worldwide problem. i thought i was waking before my alarm, and thinking, wow, i feel refreshed. then i discovered that my alarm did not go off an hour earlier. alarm also doesn't appear under sounds in settings. i started the process to contact apple support, then discovered they are not available until tomorrow.
