Lol, I read from some article that it is going to resume functionality on 3-Jan. I tested it during 00:01hrs and it worked. Great! Went back to sleep and wake up late because the alarm failed again. And I am late for work... Again...

Conclusion:
1. No matter how many test you conduct prior to official releases, there is still room for failure. No technology is perfect.
2. *Apple has turned basic alarm clock feature into rocket science*.
3. Like someone mentioned in the thread, its not a glitch, its a feature.

We build our trust through simple things. I am not going to trust Apple product anymore.

That was a long oversleep if you missed a whole day of work...

I missed a days work too, which i wont get paid for, i drive buses, so if im late someone else does the run i am supposed to be doing, so it doesnt have to be a long oversleep to miss a days work!

Hi,

OK so yesterday I missed my alarm, no big deal, reset the iPhone date to the 3rd and it was fine, reset date and to day being the 3rd all is as it should be and the alarm is again working.

This is technology which will never be 100% fool proof (nice if it were), and seriously if you are the sort of person who relies on a wake up alarm I would buy and old fashioned wind up travel clock. Or download a secondary alarm app from the store as backup.

Happy new year to all.

Hi deggie,
But you activated an alarm that existed prior to January 3rd, right.
Yes, I only wanted to see that it was 1 and 2 that were affected and that on 3 it would be ok, and there was no point in setting original alarms for every day just to make the alarm functional for 24 Hr.
You need to delete all single, pre-existing alarms and enter a new one.
I deleted all previous alarms yesterday and reset new ones this morning.

Hi DavidK2010,

I was not having a dig re my comment about old fashioned clock, mealy pointing out a safe guard and that technology always has the ability to fail, one reason I am a total Apple user hacked off with spending a small fortune over the years on Windows laptops.

Re Outlook have you seen this I suspect you have but still

Sorry @ Oldscribe, im just used to people jumping down your throat when you mention a problem with their precious iphone, ie, you done it wrong, or it was designed like that, this forum is for people with problems with the phone, but if you mention a problem there are quiet a few on here who seem to believe the iphone dont have problems.

again sorry

And no i hadnt seen that article thanks, ill have a go, its only since upgrading to 4.2.1 that i cant sync contacts to phone, strange this is, if i add a contact on the phone and then sync it appears in outlook but not vice versa

I'll jump in here to add only that, as with most things in life, it's mostly in the way the SNAFU is handled. Again, Apple fails here. We all know they have our e-mail addresses. We essentially can't use iTunes without it.

I read in one article about some (apparently weak) attempt to notify users. Oh yeah? Well you sure know how to find my iTunes account/e-mail address when you need to charge me for a purchase, why don't you use it for something important, like notifying us of essential problems? OK, day 1, no one knew. After day 1, send an e-mail as a COURTESY.

Luckily for me, I only almost missed a running date on Sunday but managed to wake up on my own (by some miracle). I have read horror stories on the BBC about other's who rely on their alarms essential functions, missing very important, indeed life-threatening, deadlines. Apples non-chalant response is disgraceful.

I've been working with computers professionally since 2000 and there's one mantra I always use:

backup, backup, backup

Backup all your data, especially when it is essential to properly function in your job or life. Learn how to backup all your valuable data on more than one place because no single electronic device can be trusted entirely when you got a situation that requires a 100% accuracy.

It's also useful to point out that the iPhone Terms of Service specifically state:

Article 7: "(...) You further acknowledge that the iPhone software and services are not intended or suitable for use in situations or environments where the failure or time delays of, or errors or inaccuracies in, the content, data or information provided by the iPhone software or services could lead to death, personal injury, or severe physical or environmental damage, including without limitation the operation of nuclear facilities, aircraft navigation or communication systems, air traffic control, life support or weapons systems. (...)"

In short: I am as angry as you are, but Apple cannot be sued for this. They more or less warned us.

Thanks for asking. How many additional alarms should we set

For anything that is remotely important ALWAYS use a standard alarm clock.

Never depend on a one piece of technology for important functions.

At every wedding I have ever been to the photographer brings a minimum of three cameras with backup batteries for each.

My iPhone alarm clock is working perfectly.

Everyone's iphone alarm is not work on 2011!!!
