LOGIC 10 FEATURE SUGGESTIONS!!!

Sent out a music producer survey and here's a list of features we really hope will be considered for Logic 10:

1. A user interface overhaul
2. A massive core audio upgrade
3. A major improvement on audio & instrument editing features, especially for editing and creating custom drum sounds etc etc!!!
4. Far superior automation & panning features
5. Multiple mixer screen views and options especially waveform view in the metering aspect
6. Deeper range of color options to color code project/session data
7. More customizable options for the logic user interface like interface skins or ways of using custom gfx like logo's and custom color schemes to make ones logic user interface more unique!!!
8. More consistent and useful updates that add new features as well as improving older ones!!!

The two features that are missing that make me crazy are:

The ability to fade multiple regions using the fade tool without dialog box.

The ability to zoom in strip silence. I cant event tell what the threshold and other settings are doing because there is so much information being displayed. Typically, I break out a small region and test the settings there so that I can see what it is doing. then I apply those settings to the entire track.

I hope you guys are wrong. It would be a real bummer if the Final Cut Xed Logic.

.. APPLE... take a look to the needs of logic PRO users!!

It won't. It will take a look at elementary school students, housewives, and people who appreciate music but have not produced anything ever and cater to them becase it profits more.

I don't think it would take this long for a new release if that were the case, it would've been very easy to release a Garageband Pro sometime ago. I think Apple was stung by having to give refunds to early FinalCutX purchasers... Apple is not used to people calling them up screaming for their money back. Anyway, I have faith in the integrity of Emagic designers/programmers. Apple's integrity? ....not so much.

Apple's priorities have shifted somewhat, (imo) they know consumer products bring money in and keep those pesky shareholders happy.

Exactly. I think Apple is looking at catering to amateur musicians, but not by dumbing down Logic. They're just making GB more of a priority on both osx and iOS. And that's not going to make Logic a worse program because it's no longer aimed at pros, but it probably does have the side effect that the same team works on both GB and Logic, and Apple mandates resources going to GB at the expense of Logic. So it's on the back burner, not what I'd like to see but better than totally wrecking the app.

I'm not sure that Final Cut X was nearly as bad as the general community were making out. What annoyed some people was that some features were stripped out and released in later point releases. Nobody was complaining about the performance being substantially superior.

Logic does need a proper serious overhaul. It really does. I hope that's why they're taking so long.

At this point, apple could steam in and paste ProTools. They could. I hope they do. The key to doing that is latency, and thunderbolt could get the latency right down. Apple have a unique position among audio DAW producers. They make the OS and core audio systems, it's a hardware and software solution, nobody apart from Avid does that for the pro audio industry, and Avid don't make computers. Apple should be able to be the best in the business.

Really, the point is that Logic isn't just for music. I use it for audio in general. Is photoshop for photographers, or architects? Apple have a huge market for audio, particularly as related to video, and the death of Soundtrack Pro does indicate that the new Logic will be a multipurpose audio tool, suitable for broadcasters and movie makers as well as musicians. For it to really deliver the goods in that respect, it needs to get sample edit features into the arrange page, and get everything really accurate.

It was unusable in a professional situation, I work with and do audio for some PBS stations, there were pros trying to use a program that even included features didn't work as advertised, plus the program crashed on a semi-regular basis. Furthermore one of the update altered already complete projects... it was the single worse release I can remeber Apple coming up with. Apple ended up refunding money to hundreds of users and lost some serious cred in the pro video market. Mainly because a lot of people moved on and will not give FC X another try for a long time, if ever, no matter how good it gets.

That's probably one of the reasons this Logic update is at least 4 years in the making.

Pancenter, you've been around a long time mate!

I still remember you from years ago! are you still on the logic users forum mate?

Respect, respect...... only respect for this guy people.

I've been using Logic now for at least 20+ years myself (well actually it wasn't called logic back then if anyone remembers that!) anyone else remember those yellow/orange Windows screens?????????

I gave up on forums long ago really. I just came onto the Apple forum cause I think there's some stuff that Apple really needs to look at and was hoping someone is picked up on those things.....

Let's all pray for some excellent implementations in vsn 10!

1). Some good Metering would be in order. imho

2). I would like to see audio editing features a bit more similar or inline with ProTools..

3). Fix 64 bit.

4). Would like better top notch EQ's / Compressors etc. (maybe some 3rd party)

5). Pitch correction algorithms.... the currently Logic pitch engine is so flaky I've managed

to use it successfully like 3 times in 20+ years. I think separate plugins/plugin windows work better for this

from my past experiences. e.g Melodyne.

6). KEEP THE ENVIRONMENT PLEASE! (those of you who don't need/use it, just don't look there!) there's some really useful features in there even if some of you don't know what they are for!

7) A top flight arpeggiator plugin would be nice please.

Anyways there's a number of more items that could be added on top of this with some of the trashier type things taken away to keep it running smoooth. Sure some of you other pros out there know what they all are.

Indeed, I hope I don't pass before Logic 10 is released. 😉

No, I don't frequent the Logic Users Forum any more although I still pick up the messages. When I first came here there were quite a few pros and I picked up some good tips. Now it's mostly a playground for new users who've never worked with audio or MIDI but yet refuse to read the manual. They seem more concerned in information than knowledge.

I didn't pickup Logic until it was called Logic, a MIDI only version at 2.3 or something like that. Moved to Logic audio at 3.x. Thanks for the kind words.
