Netflix not working on Apple TV

Since yesterday, we have been unable to use netflix on our Gen2 Apple TV... We can browse the movies, but when we attempt to play anything, we get a message that the apple TV was unable to contact the netflix service. Code 112. Netflix has nothing on this code. I can still stream to my iPad via the netflix app and all other internet based ATV resources work. The problem seems to be specifically between my ATV and the netflix servers. I tried deleting and re-entering our login information as well as deactivating our ATV as a device in our netflix account via the netflix site, but no change. Any ideas out there?

I'm sorry, but everyone should understand something very simply. We should not have purchased a product with such obvious ominous circumstances. This product clearly has a defect, but Apple and Netflix have disingenuous advertised a product that says it should work, but doesn't. Enough of these useless attempts to fix a problem that should have been fixed by them! enough!!!! The time anyone should have to plug there apple tv devise to their computer should be for jailbreaking it and that alone! This is crazy! Lets stand up and file lawsuites!!

I too have been suffering from error 117 for many many weeks (wrong email or password)

I can watch netflix from any of my other devices(Iphone,Ipad, computer). I noticed the problem after the last update, but am not certain this is when it happended. I did not verify netflix right before the update. was anyone having problems before the last update?

I have called Netflix and (117) is not there error code. I contacted Apple. After rebooting and turning everything off as per their instuctions, the problem was still not fixed. The Apple representitve put me hold to check with a supervisor I belive and could only report back to tell me that this problem is as a result of the last apple TV update, which confirmend my own suspicions. He said they are currently working with Netflix to resolve the issue, and it should be fixed in the next update. How long this will be? They dont know.

I was told by the representitive, that in the meantime, I can attach a mico mini USB from apple tv device to computer and Itunes and restore the device to the previous update. I do not have the cable so I can not verify if this works. I will wait till the next update to see if it gets resloved.

User pittync1....let me know how you make out with that lawsuit! funny stuff....

updated to 4.4.4, still no success (netflix can't find server message). Tried going back to 4.4.2 with micro usb cable.....it just locked up the unit when I tried to go to netflix and I had to reboot the apple tv each time. Re-intalled the 4.4.4 upgrade after doing a restore and reset up the tv. Still no success in connecting with netflix. Hope that apple is following this thread and both apple and netflix are working on a solution.

@Peter: Same here -- though without quite as much troubleshooting, as of yet. I have not been able to use Netflix on my Gen2 AppleTV for somewhere around a week now, and the patch installed last night was no help. (I'm not too keen on the idea of downgrading my AppleTV to an older software build... But it sounds like that might be a wild goose chase anyway, based on your trials, so there we are.) Netflix is the only thing presently affected, (as far as I know) but the same Netflix account works fine on my iMac and iPhones. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone who comes up with new details on this issue would post to this thread.

@SGSC and @Peter... likewise here; I just finished SGSC's suggestion, and everything is working normally again. It's a bit of a hassle to have to go through the entire setup procedure all over again -- particularly since you have to perform the bulk of the typing from a six-button Apple Remote instead of from the virtual keyboard of the Remote App on the iPhone -- but at least Netflix is back up and running on the AppleTV.

Thanks for the tip, SGSC!

It didn't work for me either. I did see another solution someone posted in a different thread. When you try to sign into Netflix, use the password 12345. Yes, literally 12345. The poster was told by Netflix that sometimes the password gets reset during an upgrade. It didn't work for me, but I thought I'd throw it out here in case it works for someone else.

Guys and gals, I had the same issue this morning trying to watch Netflix. I did what SGSC posted and it worked. I first checked that I had the latest upgrade, then did the reset. It asked me to put in my wireless network key (WNK). The first time it rcognized my wifi but not internet. So I powered down my wifi, re-entered WNK and it worked, everything came back as it was before. Watching now, thanks for the support!

OK, now it's frustrating again. I turned off the Apple TV after I finally got it working with netflix and today when I turned it back on. Same problem. It can't find the netflix server. I tried what worked the other day with "reset" and no go, I tried the 123445 password. I tried rebooting and then reseting....etc etc. Nothing has worked so far. I can watch netflix on my Ipad, macpro laptop or mac desktop but NOT on the apple TV2. I'm hoping a new answer emerges. In the mean time, I like trying the same things over and over again hoping they will work. Sure wish Apple would pitch in here.

I finally got my apple tv working again. After reading the post here, I was unsuccessful with any of the suggestions. However, I was able to log into the Netflix app on the apple tv after going to Netflix.com and physically changing my password to 12345. I then promptly logged into the appleTV(netflix) using the "new" (12345) password. It went directly thru. I then changed my password back to the original and everything seems to be working fine on my iMac, two iPhones, and iPad. Hopefully others will have the same luck.
