Elgato - EyeTV hybrid stopped working after latest update...

Just updated the latest software on my iMac G5: mac OSX version: 10.6.6
EyeTV Hybrid: Software: Version: 3.5 (6514)

Started getting an error saying I was using a USB 1.1 port…
the iMac has all 2.0 ports (no i didn't plug it into the keyboard port).

Now message reading:
Please make sure your device is plugged in and working.

Running Set up EyeTv assistant: showing no signal & no attached device.

Using the System Profiler shows no device attached to the USB ports… I've unplugged all other USB devices and they re-show up in the profile when reconnected.

I recently added the EyeTV app for iPad…
that was working well and now it says there is no tuner attached.

any ideas? is it the latest apple update?

BRILLIANT! I have been emailing Elgato for a week and a half trying to get to the bottom of this. They finally offer to send me a replacement but I'm out of warranty so no dice. They best they can do is a 30% promo code. So before I place the order I google my problem ONE MORE TIME just to see what I can see, and here I am. I'm not brave enough for the oven, so I just grabbed my hairdryer and tried high heat on each side for 30 seconds. IT WORKED! My $100 POS is functional again! Thanks, guys! You are BRILLIANT!

I had a similar problem about 12 months ago after upgrading my old PowerMac G3 (on which the Elgato never missed a beat) to a Quad-Core Mac Pro...which wounldn't recognise the TV Hybrid.

Was a little sceptical about cooking my TV Hybrid, but found another solution. Plugged the Elgato into a powered USB hub and after about an hour it suddenly kicked in and started working...apparently after warming up.

Left it in the hub, which was always on...and the Elgato worked first time ever since...until a week ago...when I got nothing.

I thought it was dead, so had nothing to lose, so tried the hair dryer for 30 seconds trick...Bingo, all is working again.

Weird!!

Same problem..

Elgato refused to replace my eyetv hybrid. Now baked it third time in 2 years and it works again. I bake it for 20 - 30 minutes at 200 degrees celcius.

We know the problem and we know the temporary solution. If I owned the company I would replace all defective units immediately to avoid a thread like this. Its embarrassing for you Elgato!!

Yes sir! After endless fiddling and frustrated playing with my Elgato eye tv (aged but working intermittently) the little widget finally went on permanent strike. Nearly bought a new one but read this forum and gently roasted the tiny beast - stripped of it's little plastic jacket - at 200c for 30 minutes - on a small piece of clean foil - left it to cool. Connected it up, re-booted the system and eurika!

Thanks all for advice - so pleased to have it back............

Elgato TV Hybrid - great product hardware & software ... but ... this is the second time my Elgato device Rev 1.1 (at least five years old) has become unreliable and then stopped working completely. And the second time twenty minutes at 200°C then cooled for half an hour has brought it back to life.

I used to use this with a heavily upgraded Quicksilver 2002 (Sonnet Duet 1.8GHz) with Firewire 800/USB2.0 Combo upgrade card now I use it with a mid 2011 MacMini 16GB 2.7GHz Core i7.

Thanks to the this forum for the advice. PS Don’t forget to snap the case off!

All this technology ......... The same thing happened to mine - it just would not work and I tried everything. Was just about to buy a new one and I read somewhere on this thread to heat it up and I now have a hairdryer next to it. I have to heat the thing up till its really really hot - I even noted that I had started to melt the aluminum hub. But it always works after that.

Thank you so much to gagsy, beaudu and all those that have posted about their experience in 'cooking' their hybrid - 20 mins at 200 deg C - perfect!

I was a bit skeptical at first - and when I saw there were a few examples of this working I thought 'what have I got to lose?'

I've been MONTHS without my EyeTV and it's now miraculously resurrected itself. Unbelievable.

Thanks again - and I have no idea how the original person that thought this up actually got it to work - they are a GENIUS!!
