iPhone 4, iOS 4
Same thing happened to me. Try to fix it by myself or get a new one. Not worth to repair.
My button has also become sticky, at least it still works, and I've cleaned it out with a sewing needle, and that seemed to help as I think mine was stuck from having dust collect in it. I'm gonna bring it to this repair place by my house that does a replacement of the button for 25 canadian. Apple products are built like everything else, to fail after warranty has run out. Was thinking about getting a mac book, now gonna stick with Windows based computer like ASUS or SAMSUNG. I remember when Microsoft had an issue with the XBOX 360, they extended the warranty to 3 years for all due to faulty product. They replaced my xbox with a new one at no charge to me, after 3 years of owning it. that is good customer support. The retards that work at this genuis bar are told to tell everyone that its your fault there cheap made in china **** broke. At least when a Blackberry breaks its under a year, and it gets replaced.
Thanks for nothing Apple.
Fortunately, the problem was fixed in 5 min. I removed the backcover and pushed the power cable a little bit using a small screwdriver. The small metal click point was still working. It seems that the metal click point was misaligned with the power button after a drop.
Add me to the list. Pulled my iPhone 4 out of my pocket and the button is mush. This is my last Apple product. Going back to my Blackberry from 2006 that still works fine.
I hope you choke on my money Apple.
*UPDATE* Since the backwards forum won't let me edit my post I'm creating another one!
I went to the Apple store and the guy said, "you have to buy another one". Oh really!?!?! He then proceeded to put some stupid button that is always visible on my screen so that I can turn it off. Hands it to me, "we have an app to fix all of the broken power buttons". Hmm, c'mon Apple. You make an app to band-aid your junky broken hardware instead of just fixing them.
So the phone is in the trash and the iPad 64GB 4G that I bought two weeks ago is going back for a refund tomorrow. Adios Apple! You get to choke on my iPhone money, but not the new iPad. $850 for a tablet that will probably be broken in a year is not going to be a reality for this former sucker.
Add Another to the list too !! . Mine died today just so randomly cant even press it in at all.The Iphone 4's just less than 6 months old. dont know what to do with it !
Another one here! Less than 5 month old! Do AT&T still bring you a refurbished one at the Repair Center?
Add another one just came out of work today to find my iPhone 4S power button not working. Changed the setting to auto lock in a couple of minutes so I can still use it and I bought the device on release so just gone 6 months old!
Rang up AppleCare and I was recommended to book an appointment at the Apple genius bar looks like I be taking a visit to the flagship store (Regent Street) this weekend for a new iPhone. 🙂
And then in 6 months when your new one is out of warranty, BAM...the shock sets in and you start looking at Androids and Blackberrys like me.
thanks for the info but, I am out of warrenty and, i've had the colour changed (by a trained ex-apple worker) and i have the same problem. any helf/infomation would be great!
Thanks Tom.
I've had my iPhone 4 for about a year and a half, it's in excellent condition, yet about a month ago one morning my power button stopped functioning. I would understand if my phone was in bad shape or if it had signs of damage, but I take really good care of my apple products (MacBook, iPhone, iPad, AppleTV) yet right now I have a phone with a non-working power button at no fault of my own. I've been to the Apple Store and was told that I would need to pay $149 to get it replaced. I strongly feel this is unfair because it's not a question of misuse or carelessness on my end, it's a question of the design and/or materials used. My phone should not last less that 2 years if properly taken care of. I have enjoyed Apple products but this incident has me questioning my future investments in it's products.
Apple, though I love your products I will not pay for poor quality products! No matter how innovative or revolutionary they are, your devices are worthless if they are made poorly and break in a short period of time. From all the replies it's evident that a new iPhone with proper care should not have this issue in such a short time. Address this issue Apple or lose one customer.
You're wasting your time telling Apple how you feel. That's like telling ExxonMobil that you are going to stop buying their gas. Neither care.
I feel the exact same way. Mine just broke recently and I had a new iPad (64GB, 4G) that I returned and said adios.
Becuase there are tens, maybe hundreds, of thousands of Apple customers with broken power buttons, Apple made an app that the Apple Store sub-geniuses can install that puts a button on your screen at all times. You can turn it off or lock the screen with that. It's in the way and very annoying, but at least you can turn it off while you find a quality phone to replace it with.
Sorry for your misfortune.
Forgot to mention, that "fix" I was also given when I went into the Apple Store which just puts and annoying and constant white button on the screen is a joke! You constantly have to keep moving it around so it's not in the way. You have to make sure and turn it off before playing a game because it won't go away otherwise. I've noticed that I actually use my iPhone 4 a lot less because I don't want to deal with this annoyance. So if that's the case, I'm just going to change to a different phone!
I fully understand what you're saying Robotaz, and it may be sound stupid, but Apple seemed different when it came to caring about their customers. In reality it's a business like any other business and it's success is affecting the quality of their products and customer satisfaction. Sad to see Apple going down that road.
Well, when you tell that to Apple, they tell you that you should have bought Apple Care. In other words, for their products to be worth anything, you have to buy a warranty, and then it's only worth another year.
Apple is for Koolaid drinkers and those people buy the Apple Care cost multiplier with glee. I just don't get it. Nobody seems to understand that Apple is the only company acknowledging their products need additional warranties. It's sad if you ask me.
