iPhone 4, iOS 4
I don't see many postings discussing a stuck *iPhone5* power button. From what info are you drawing the conclusion that the iPhone5 has the same defect?
I asked the genious guys working in the local Apple store. People are periodically brining iphones 5 with the broken buttons. Apple has not changed the technology for this button. Time will show more cases for iphone 5. It is not a year yet since iphone 5 has been released.

Dirty Vegas, I think the fact that there are almost 40 pages JUST on the Apple forums of people complaining about this exact problem, thousands (if not millions) of hits on videos regarding this issue on YouTube, and the fact that there are at least 2 class action suits with many people attached to them should be enough"citation". No, Apple has not come out and said it was a "known issue" because that would be them admitting fault, at this point.
Also, you said the sleep/wake button is not something that is listed to be fixed by warranty for Apple. However, that is kind of the point, isn't it? Many of us that have this issue have had previous models of iPhones with no problems. So why are so many wake/sleep buttons breaking 1-2 months out of the 1 year warranty? If I am forced to sign up for a 2 year agreement and don't get a break on a new phone until that 2 yr agreement is up, then I expect my phone to completely function for those 2 years, if I take good care of it. I have never heard of phones only lasting 1 year.
This forum (just as the Apple Store Genius Bar) is where people come when things go wrong. Of course the sleep/wake button gets mentioned as an issue in a place where service issues are discussed. I asked for a citation. By definition, a citation can't be presented form the same source that is asking for it.
Also, please read my words before trying to re-word them. I never said that the sleep/wake button is not a warranty issue. I said it doesn't get repaired, but the entire device gets replaced. I can't tilt at strawmen. I have information for to provide. All that is necessary that it be read.

Please provide a citation for this claim.
Dirty Vegas, just curious, are you on Apple's payroll by any chance?
My iPhone 4S has been very well taken care of. The button worked one minute then didn't the next. I called the apple store and I am out of warranty sooooo not only won't they fix it, they will NOT replace it either!!! So I am stuck till the end of January 2014. I am on my 3rd iPhone, I have a iPad, a MacBook Pro and Apple now stinks. This is not the way to treat customers. Ignore a known apple/iPhone issue. Wow I have lots of time to do some shopping for a new brand.
It sounds like some people are getting success when they start reporting this at Apple stores, any success anywhere else?
I suppose Apple are trying to avoid a full recall as it would be cripplingly expensive - say for the sake of argument that they've sold 100 million iPhone 4 and 4S and it will cost them about $25 a go to fix the issue - that's $2.5 billion to fix the issue therefore denial is really much cheaper for them until it starts hurting new sales significantly.
There's been a court case in the US won I believe regarding this issue a couple of months ago you just need to google it. So its fair to say apple are aware of it. I think referring them to that would probably sort a few more people out?
I've been using assesive touch. But in order for me to turn my iPod on, i have to click the home button a lot. Now my home button is broken. SO practically, BOTH of my buttons are broken. Will apple replace it then for free?
My power button has just perished aswell after 18 months. I would recommend anyone with an iphone 4 or 5 use
AssistiveTouch to lock their phones
Thanks a MILLION for your PERFECT tip Trixie215 :-)
For what it's worth, I have an iPhone 4s and my fiance's iPhone 4 both have broken power buttons. It's as though the "spring" is worn out and if you push really hard it may work, may not.
Very disappointed in the design of that button to wear out after a year or so.
Hopefully Apple will issue a recall and fix the faulty power buttons.
I guess I joined the club today. I didn't even know this problem existed until my iPhone 4's, bought in 2011, power button decided not to work anymore. The phone itself is taken really good care of, it has never fallen etc. So I googeled it and wonder what I found. Thousands of people have the same problem. If the replacement costs 150/199 dollars in the US, then Finnish Apple care offered me today to FIX it for 130€ ( approx 174 dollars) and the Estonian one for 225€ ( approx. 300 dollars). It is insane and I really hoped that Apple would handle the situation differently.
I guess as a formerly proud owner of an iPhone, iPad and a Macbook Pro, I have to say that I am deeply disappointed. My 2 year guarantee (in Europe it has to be 2 years) ended in March and wonder, wonder in August, my phone is broken.
Same thing here, button just stopped working, not been dropped/ damaged and is just 14 months old. I hope Apple are hearing the alarm bells on this Forum and offer a free fix. This is clearly a design flaw and a good example of where goods purchased are not fit for purpose. Samsung are now looking like the next step when replacing my phone. Unless, of course, Apple can persuade me otherwise....?
No love from the Genius Bar in Augusta😠 Are they being trained to fix stuff or sell stuff? They were quick to come back and say it couldn't be fixed, but were more than happy to try and sell me a replacement. I think they could use some "assistive technology".....
I HAVE A SOLUTION haha. I have an iPhone 4s and the power button was stuck. I tried everything i read on here and nothing worked. I ended up just flicking the power button 3 or 4 times kinda hard and now it's unstuck. I'm not promising you it will work on your phone but that is all it took for me... I hope this helps a lot of you! Very simple and fast.
