iPhone 4 Power Button Stuck

Out of the blue today the power/lock button on my iPhone 4 became completely unresponsive. It doesn't seem to be jammed and it actually seems to be loose and a bit wiggly. Now I can't restart my phone and I can't lock it. I was wondering if this was a common problem with other iPhone 4 units and what would be the best way to go about getting it fixed. I got this phone from a friend about a month ago who had only used it for about two months before switching to a different phone. Prior to receiving this phone I had been using an iPhone 3G for two years with no problems whatsoever. This iPhone 4 has not been dropped or exposed to water or humidity of any kind. Thanks in advance!

Has anyone posted a solution price via apple store/repairer in Australia? Apologies if I've missed it. Not too sure what the price difference between an apple store swap over/fix from a repairer would be for this problem. *****, but my mint condition 18 month old 4S has encountered this problem out of nowhere 2 days ago. It was working, I put it down and picked it up a bit later, and it wasn't working.

I am wondering if you would please provide me with information regarding what you mean by apple repair store and what did they do to fix it for under 25$?

Same thing is happening with my iPhone currently and I would love to get it fixed and not pay the 169$ the Apple store said it would cost for a replacement.

Thanks 🙂

Nope, not replace it, just service it. Anyway, since this seems to be such a common problem, it's clearly a defect with the iphone. Luckily, I know how the "real world works" and I know there are better solutions than any you have mentioned. 🙂 It's just a shame Apple forces me to go a different route than the simple one (which would be Apple acknowledging the product defect and offering to fix it for at most a small fee.)

No Sir, it's not how it works when it's a known design flaw. I don't support class action suits, but I can guarantee you Apple is going to get hit hard with one on this issue. It's flat out a bad product which Apple refuses to support save having to spend another $150 on something that shouldn't have gone wrong in the first place. I've never ever seen these kinds of problems on such a wide scale for any type of phone. Ever. Add into the issues with the home button and it's almost laugable.

Dirty Vegas, I think the fact that there are almost 40 pages JUST on the Apple forums of people complaining about this exact problem, thousands (if not millions) of hits on videos regarding this issue on YouTube, and the fact that there are at least 2 class action suits with many people attached to them should be enough"citation". No, Apple has not come out and said it was a "known issue" because that would be them admitting fault, at this point.

Also, you said the sleep/wake button is not something that is listed to be fixed by warranty for Apple. However, that is kind of the point, isn't it? Many of us that have this issue have had previous models of iPhones with no problems. So why are so many wake/sleep buttons breaking 1-2 months out of the 1 year warranty? If I am forced to sign up for a 2 year agreement and don't get a break on a new phone until that 2 yr agreement is up, then I expect my phone to completely function for those 2 years, if I take good care of it. I have never heard of phones only lasting 1 year.
