4.2.1's lag issue on iPhone 4

Hi there,
I just update to iOS 4.2.1 few days ago, well, the new features were just work fine, but I found a lag problem with my iPhone4, yes, it was LAG!
here are some cases:
1. lag when scrolling(such as in address book or other pages with long contents)
2. lag when opening a folder or closing a folder
3. pressing HOME, the zoom out animation sometimes lag
4. pressing APPs, the zoom in animation maybe lag
5. double pressing HOME, the animation maybe lag,,,,

the issue seems just like a computer in high CPU usage or with low memory, and sometimes it made me a little bit freak out....

after I cleared all the histories and cookies and caches and closed all background APPs, the issue remained,,,

there was no problem when my iPhone 4 was iOS 4.1 and previous versions.
and my iOS 4.2.1 works fine inside the APPs,,,

I wonder if any other users got such lag issue, or it was just something wrong with my iPhone,,,,

please help me, thanks!

There you go... being rude again. You don't have any manners, do you?
I agree with Brad87. You don't want to realize that this problem exists for more people than you can count with whatever body parts. And you definately don't want to help the peole who are posting on this thread. The only thing you do is to keep telling us that you are right. You are such a joke figure.

How about some links to backup your claims of "many other websites with people reporting the same problem" - particularly when you can't describe it in a consistent way yourself.

There's no denying that the animation lag/stutter is a real problem for some. The cause and cure remains unclear. What I've objected to is the blatantly false proclamations posted here that it's a universal problem affecting ALL iPhone 4's with 4.2.1 and that anyone who doesn't find it is too lame to see or understand what they see.

As far as how "many" actually have this problem - certainly far more than the mere 15 or so posting about it in various threads here, but not even close to the "many" reporting what turned out to be real bugs.

However, if you want to put it in perspective, search for the threads about the "slowdown" when updating the iPhone 3G from iOS 3.x to 4. There were hundreds - thousands posting about it.

You don't get it, do you? Nobody ever claimed, that these laggy/jerky animations are a huge bug. It's not an issue which is rendering the iPhone useless and as a natural consequence there are fewer people reporting about the issue. I posted some links to other threads earlier and you can find more if you FINALLY START USING GOOGLE. So why do keep asking for more links?

Why do I think, that all iOS devices running 4.2.1 are affected? Well, again... read my posts.

a) I learned that it is a known bug in iOS 4.2.1 from a coworker who develops Apps. If you don't believe that until you see a bug ID - fine with me.

b) I went to an Apple Store just last weekend. And guess what... well, read my post from yesterday.

You are patently dishonest. It's you (not the OP who uppe was "defending") who hijacked this thread for your own agenda, making the ridiculous and insulting claim that ALL iP4s have this problem and that anyone who didn't notice it is incapable of seeing and understanding it. It's you who tried to tell me to leave the thread because I dared to refute your unsubstantiated nonsense (typical troll-nest defense tactic).

The truth is that at most, a small minority have this problem. That is the real joke.

wow, I actually agree with you on something. but this "small" number may only be small if you take into account the millions of iPhone users. so this "small" number might actually be a significant number.

I guarantee there are thousands who haven't reported it, I didn't actually plan on reporting it until I just so happened to read this thread and figured I'd mention it as well.

As a developer myself, I do know that Apple doesn't divulge "known bugs", even to developers, unless they are Apple employees with firm NDAs. At most, when reporting a problem, they'll say it's "under investigation."

Well guess what... NONE of my 12 colleagues with iP4s and 4.2.1 have this problem and neither do any of the 7 demo units in my local Apple store.

I completely agree with that. Those reporting here represent a tiny fraction of the total - there likely are thousands, possibly many thousands. But, a far cry from ALL or a majority.

@KC7GNM: So far every iOS device running 4.2 that I have seen, has the issue. Like I said before, I just went to an Apple Store this weekend and every single device there had jerky animations. So I think, that...

a) most people don't notice it, because they don't have "an eye" for it.
b) maybe (but unlikely) it's affecting only European devices since I have not yet had an American device in my hands.

So what you are saying you haven't seen it on each and every one of the 30+million iphone 4's that have been sold throughout the world. What you have seen is probably less than .000001 percent of the total iphones so your initial statement is that it is on every iphone is false. I don't have this lag issue you are talking about and if it exists it is so minute that I don't worry or obsess about it like you do. Sounds like you are pretty anal when it comes to that .0003 second lag that 30+ million others don't notice.

Feb 1, 2011 5:56 PM in response to Brad87

@modular....there really are many posts online about this lag. It's great that you're not having problems, but apparently many people on the net are.

How many out of the 30+ million owners? Come up with some firm numbers that you can back up on how many are actually complaining about this phantom lag? You guys will complain about anything, antenna, yellow screens, lagging, etc.

Yes. I'm experiencing this lag issue as well. Everything on my iPhone 4 is jerky and sometimes slow. I believe the animation/transition effect is something like a drop of frame when closing the application. This issue is usually prominent when i'm opening the app store or anything that requires data usage. I've made a call to apple and they have confirmed with me that it is a software issue and not a hardware issue. I really hope that this isn't a lie and I hope that this could be fixed by the next iOS update.
