Using Gimp or Gimpshop

Hi, I recently installed Mac Box Set with version OSX 10.6.5 on my Macbook Pro. Since then I cannot use My Photoshop 7.0 anymore. From other topics I learned that I was not the only and I had to install the free X11 and Gimp. Problem is that this is complete different and I don't know how it works and I cannot find users instructions. So I also installed Gimpshop because this should be more users friendly. But this refuses to open and crashes immediately. Can somebody help me with an easy and clear users manual for using Gimp and how can I solve the problem with Gimpshop ? Thanks for all help !

It is your computer so you can do with as you like but I certainly would not go that route.

I have found that Aperture is much faster way to handle the vast majority of my editing needs plus it also maintain the original photos untouched in a database for me. Things that are not possible with Photoshop.

I would suggest you try the demo before you downgrade to see if it fits your needs as it does mine.

Hi Tom and Allan,

I downloaded a trial version of Aperture 3 for 30 day trial. But on first sight it is not much different with the existing iPhoto 11 on my Mac. Perhaps a little bit more possibilities but not fundamentally different. Am I wrong ?

As I wrote before I used Photoshop for vacation photos but mainly for drawing purposes. And I don't find this possibilities in Aperture. For example : I take scans of a plan of a house (ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor etc) and save these on my computer. Then I opened them in Photoshop and I could begin to make changes : erasing existing walls, drawing new ones, filling up spaces, adding symbols etc. etc. I could also change perspectives. I don't find all these drawing and writing tools in differen layers in Aperture. It looks to me as a refined iPhoto program. Do you have any experience with these applications ? Thanks for all help, Raf.
