Import hotmail folders to Mail

Import hotmail folders to Mail

Hi there,

Im a new Mac user and for a lot of years I used to use windows mail clients, my problem is that I have folders in my hotmail account and although I already add my msn account in Mail I can't see or access to my hotmail folders. Is there any way to import my hotmail folders to Mail?

I really appreciate your helpful answer.

the same problem for me..... Mail for Mac works only with POP3 settings and for this reason do not import folders.... this is very strange because hotmail works 100% on iPhone

to solve this problem I installed MESSENGER on my Mac and I use it both for chat and for emails.

I hope that on Lion the Mail application will support IMAP/Exchange settings for hotmail

To solve this issue, you could login to your Hotmail account in a browser, then move all of the messages in various folders to your Inbox, select all of the messages and mark them as unread. Once you've done that, Apple Mail will download all of the messages from your Hotmail inbox.

This is a very good suggestion to solve the problem ONLY IF Apple Mail can download all messages marked as "unread" and also import the same folders structure that I have in hotmail web client.

Mac Mail supports iMap/Exchange, Hotmail does not.

I think you may be missing the point here.

Microsoft only allows POP3 download of e-mail from their Hotmail product. POP3 does not work like IMAP, Outlook Connector for Hotmail or Windows Live Mail. POP3 is very basic.

In other words... it is not Apple's fault that the Mail program can't download and organize your Hotmail into matching folders. Microsoft does not provide this type of functionality to any third party e-mail client.

The only way around this is to follow the steps that I outlined above and resort your mail from the Inbox in Apple Mail once you've downloaded it.

You can do it setting the hotmail account as an Exchange account. In the Server Name, you need to enter m.hotmail.com. Then you will see all your folders and mails. It works fine on iOS devices, it shold work with Mac Mail.

I'm guessing, I cannot try it now (I don't have my Mac here). It works fine with iPhone, and Snow Leopard has Exchange integration, so it should work. It's a Hotmail feature called "Active sync"

iPhones have a different operating system and although Mail has exchange compatibility Hotmail does not, please test your suggestions.

So, does it works? It is true that it works on iphone iOS but I have not tried on Mac OS.

It does work. If you setup Hotmail as an exchange account and have the server as m.hotmail.com

It will pull in all of your Hotmail folders and to setup the folders to actually show the content go to Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars, (Account Name), Accounts to push, tap on all the folders you want so they have the checkmark!

That's right - it works on iOS devices. The hotmail/exchange active sync feature is only available on certain model phones (iOS, Windows Phone 7, webOS palm pre, etc) at this point. It is not available for use with email clients on OS X or even Windows at this point.

If you have a Mac or a Windows pc, at this point you can only to POP3 email through hotmail. Under POP3 only messages in the inbox can be downloaded to your Mac or Windows pc, regardless of the email client app you are using.

mBox Mail for Mac can give you IMAP-like features with the hotmail email service. It's an add-on to your existing email client.

mBox mail is really good, it is also on the iphone and works as an entire mail client

This only works on IOS devices (iPod/iPad/iPhone) it does not work on PC or Macs!
