Import hotmail folders to Mail

Hi there,

Im a new Mac user and for a lot of years I used to use windows mail clients, my problem is that I have folders in my hotmail account and although I already add my msn account in Mail I can't see or access to my hotmail folders. Is there any way to import my hotmail folders to Mail?

I really appreciate your helpful answer.

I've just bought myself a new MacbookPro running Mavericks. I'm completely new to macs but considerate myself fairly computer literate. I've configured mail using the imap settings as listed on outlook.com - essentially the same method as Christma01 describes.

It has worked partially. All of my folders (everything but my inbox) sync perfectly.

However my inbox itself doesn't sync at all.

So: I can send outgoing mail, folders other than inbox sync and work correctly but I cannot view old or newly received emails in my inbox.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might have gone wrong?

I have removed and added the account using the same details which hasn't changed the outcome.

I also have a gmail account configured in the app (which works like clockwork by the way) in case its relevant that there are multiple accounts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I just tried Chrisma01's solution and found that it does work, as far as importing folders from Hotmail.

But here is my issue: for the last 4 years, I've been using the Httpmail plugin and keeping my folders organized locally on my harddrive. I don't keep a lot of old, legacy mail in my hotmail account online.

Last week I was forced to upgrade to Snow Leopard, and Httpmail plugin no longer functions.

So I can use Chrisma01's technique to get folders back, but in the process I seem to have lost all of my local folder organization and archive from 2009-2013 (though I know these messages are saved on my harddrive somewhere).

Any ideas? Thanks!

Christmas01, Your directions worked perfectly for me!

No more excuses. Now I can actually sort offline & in comfort my Hotmail account contents.

It's a lot.

(About 10 years worth of "um… I'll stick here & deal with it later" stuff.

569 in inbox, 52 folders containing another 606 messages.)

Also the empty folders showed up first, then inbox contents, lastly folder contents.

Perhaps some people with empty folders stopped the downloading too soon.

Thanks again, Cheers RWabit

I finally got hotmail to work with my iMac!

To solve this issue, you could login to your Hotmail account in a browser.

Next to your name you will see white wheel.

When you select >choose Options

Go to Managing your account

Select >Connect devices and apps with POP

Now you will have option POP:

-Enable

-Disable

-Deleting downloaded messages

I choose

-ENABLE

-Do what the device or app says-if it’s set to delete messages, delete them.

Go to Microsoft Outlook and log to your Hotmail account.

It works? It is true that it works on iMac Version OSX 10.9.4.
