Import hotmail folders to Mail

Why don't you try it yourself?

I does not, I have tried the same settings that work ok on my iPhone but when I use Mail.app or Outlook 2011 I got a message that says "The Exchange server m.hotmail.com is not responding..." I think Exchange server identifies the client in the same manner a web server does, when you acces with different browsers, the web server can detect if you are using Firefox(mozilla x.0), Safari or IE. I think the email client sends a tag to the hotmail server so this one can deny a service based on that. and I think the M on m.hotmail.com stands for mobile. So it denies service to any other device that is not a smart phone

Re: Importing folders from msn, hotmail and live into Apple Mail

I have had some success using the following method. I have not tried it on Snow Leopard, Leopard or Tiger; only with Lion.

You will need access to both your old windoze machine, a flash drive or similar storage device and your mac.

1. Download and install (if you haven't already) Windows Live Mail into your old Windoze machine

2. Setup your preexisting email account (hotmail, live, msn)

3. Allow Windows Live Mail to synchronise fully so that all your online folders and their contents are now on your Windoze machine

4. Select Export from the file menu and export your messages as Windows Live Mail format to a flash drive or other storage device

5. Plug the flash drive or similar storgae device into your mac

6. Open up Apple Mail (if you haven't already setup your msn, live or hotmail account with Apple mail then do so now) and select Import from the file menu

7. And here's the weird bit. Select Apple Mail as the type of mail folder you are trying to import. Navigate to the flash drive or similar device where your Windows Live Mail folders are and import.

Hey presto you have all your mail folders on your Apple Mail app

Hope this works for the other operating systems too, please let us know if it does.

Thank you for this post. I just downloaded mBox Mail for Mac - http://fluentfactory.com/mboxmail-for-mac/ - and it synced my Hotmail to Outlook for Mac. I can see all my hotmail folders, however the mail in the folders does not seem to be downloading. Also, it does not support sub-folders. For exmple if you have a folder called Important, and under that you have another folder called Receipts, it will show the two folders as seperate folders. Since, the mail is not downloading, maybe it works on the Mail client on the Mac.

The server cannot be accessed. What is the number of internal and ecternal ports for the server?

I have the same proble. I wonder if anyone could help in ths regards?

Your solution was PERFECT for what I was hoping to accomplish...move my Hotmail folders over to the Apple email client. This has been on my "to do" list for longer than I care to remember...and now it's DONE!

i am also new to Mac a well and i have ML OS. I am trying to get all the folders in to apple mail.

There are none, ActiveSync access to Hotmail is for IOS only.

I finally got hotmail to work with my mac!

Go to system preferences > mail, contacts & calendars > add exchange account. I couldn't add an account with exchange via Mail.
