.MOV files won't play anymore

since we had to get a new hard drive, I backed up everything using time machine and I brought all my photos and movies back but now some of my videos/movies (taken on my digital camera) won't play. They are still .MOV files but the time has been changed to 0.00 and consequently they look like still photographs. It has only happened to some of them as well despite being taken on the same camera. I have all the videos but they don't play anymore. Anyone have any idea what could have happened? and what I could do about it, if anything?

This is horrible. Has anyone figured out yet? All my family videos are slowly being lost. I'm in the middle of organizing my .mov files which used to play on my mac. Now randomly my favourites I had tagged or viewed recently are disappearing! I have them on an external hard drive, but have no back-ups. Please say somebody at Apple has a solution...

2011 and there is still no solution..... 😟

Unfortunately, all my mov files are on my ext hd and have deleted them on my phone. Each and every mov file on that usb is there. BUT EACH AND EVERY MOV FILE SHOWS 0:00

These are videos from a family reunion, we last seen each other a decade ago... The videos that I took were supposed to be a "movie" christmas present to them... Now, it's all gone. Technology has failed me... Rather, I failed by trusting technology. Lol.......... 😐

Thank you for posting this! I was so nervous after discovering that my backup hard drive converted my movies to 0:00 on quicktime. But so far all my movies are playing on VLC when I import them back into that application. Now I just need to find a safe way to save them again to prevent this from happening in the future.

Thank you!!!

This is an outrageously easy fix! I tried downloading all those files people have mentioned and nuthin! I'm running 10.11.1

1) So find all your thumbnails of videos that won't play. Mine were in Photo's Videos folder (who knew?)

2) Select all of them

3) From the Photo Menu select Export and then choose Export Unmodified Original for ... Videos

4) Check 'em by going to the folder into which you exported your videos and click on one of them.

5) Import your videos back to Photos!

And that little snip at Target said to me (a white haired 69 year old woman), "Oh, how adorable! You use computers?"

I'm kissing my brilliant hands. Really!

ANYBODY have an honest fix for this yet? 1. Tried the "export original from Photos" option... nothing. You hit the play button and it instantly slides to the end of the play bar with no change in the image. File time is still 0.00.

2. Tried the "make a new copy in Handbrake" option... nothing. Handbrake can't open any of them. Says "No valid file source found." when you click on any of the 0.00 files.

HELP!!!!
