So, I heard from a source that the login problem has to do with the AppStore trying to track hardware MAC: addresses of built in ethernet chipsets. There is no other support information available other than Apple is now looking into the issue.
As for upgrading to Lion, the App Store was first introduced in 10.6.6. When I asked the question to the tech support on the phone, I was told that I did not need to have 10.6.8 to be able to install Lion. As long I have 10.6.6 or 10.6.7, I should be able to install it because both of those updates/build have the "stable" App Store application.
I would get a fresh new hard drive, partiontion it properly and then install it there and not mess with my current working 10.6.6 or 10.6.7, when installing the released version of Lion.
Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to buy a new hard drive, so a) how can I do this with the one I've got, or b) how can I downgrade to 10.6.7? I'm with Ashley - if this problem still persists in Lion, Apple's gonna have a mess on their hands....
I am running Lion 10.7 GM that I installed from my developer account and even with Lion I am having this problem and cannot figure out now to fix it.
Apple has better get this mess straightend out soon.
You do know that you are violating the NDA you agreed to - the terms include that you are not to discuss a not-yet-released OS in any way or anywhere except on the special forums made available to you by Apple.
I have not diclosed any feature's or technical information, you have no idea what you are yammering on about.
Float off to the next thread and pick on someone else willing to submit to you.

I wasn't yammering. I was pointing out that you are in violation of contract terms.

You wouldn't be submitting to me. In case you are not aware of it, this is an Apple site and run by Apple. If you will read the terms here, you will understand a bit better of how it is run and what is expected of the participants.
So, read your NDA and, when you're done reading that, this is also a good read (in particular, para. 2.2):

I choose not to interact with someone with such an absurd attitude, so I'm done here.
Totally were yammering because you only stopped into the conversation and added nothing to help the people that are involved here.
Happy you are done here.
Let's focus on the login problem, I propse. I think Ashley makes a useful pt and does nothing against the spirt of the NDA. But that is just my opinion. We need to get the app store problem resoved!
I already called up the Apple tech support a couple of days ago. This tech support guy told me that they are working on the Apple App Store. So far the App store is still down as of today. I can sign in to the app store thru my Ipad 2 but not on my computer.
Ok, had a few empty SATA drives, bored of waiting for Apple to sort this out so i put them in caddies and installed some different versions of Mac OS on them, heres what i found:
I'm expecting delivery of my new 27" iMac i7, hope Apple sort this annoying problem out soon.
My Brother-in-law is a genius and figured out a solution to the problem for me...
Delete the following file from your preferences:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist.
Then restart the computer. Once it's restarted, delete all network interfaces from the network pane. Once they are deleted, add them back in using the "+" button. You may need to re-add all of your former network passwords, etc., but those should already be written down anyway.
Here's hoping that this helps some folks!
That's a pretty extreme solution to get a few extra levels in Angry Birds ... (the only app I've bought on the App Store so far!).
Anyone else report success with this method? Is it worth having to write down the network passwords for the dozen or so Wifi networks I visit?
First off, if you'd perhaps bought several pieces of software upon which you depend to complete daily tasks/business and/or had spent more than $5 on a game and/or had any intention of upgrading to OS X Lion...you might be a bit more concerned I suppose.
Secondly, earlier in this thread, it was found that, while the proposed solution of trashing the networkprefs plist solved the problem in 10.6.6 and 10.6.7, it does not solve the issue in 10.6.8.
Thirdly, is having to write down a few network passwords really that much of a burden to you? Seriously?
3) I have easily collected over 15 wireless passwords and access. Those passwords (wc8%nOIn232#1fs) aren't always fun to write down either.
let's put it this way: Apple hasn't fixed this yet? Seriously?
This is the second release to have the problem, and it's gotten worse.
Signing into the iTunes/Mac App Store is down. Not much else to say, you have to wait for these services to be restored.
This has nothing to do with Mac OS X or any settings and it's not a bug.
Yes it's a bug in OS X because the release 10.6.7 works and when you install the OS X update 10.6.8 the bug stops you from using AppStore, same is for 10.7 GM.
It's a bug with the way the OS is seeking information from hardware chipset ID's....
Please do not come here misleading people and telling them it's not a bug; when clearly if you did know what you were commenting about you would understand it's a bug.
