Cannot Send Mail - the username or password incorrect - help please?

My Yahoo mail account on my iphone which has been working for a year today stopped letting me reply to emails. I can recieve fine but it will not let me reply to messages, comes up with "wrong username and password". I checked in Settings and they are both correct. I have also done the following but to no avaial:

Changed my password to something shorter with just letters
Turned phone on and off
Deleted the account and setup again

If anyone could help I would be most grateful as I have run out of ideas

Can't help with a solution, but it may be some comfort to know that my wife's BT Yahoo account has just started doing EXACTLY the same thing on her iPhone only.

Cannot Send Mail
The user name or password for " **" in incorrect.

All the settings ARE correct. I've rebooted. I've deleted and re-installed the account, which verifies fine, so the password is actually OK.

Lord knows what the problem is - but my guess is it will sort itself out overnight... Summat to do with the Yahoo mail servers I guess...

My wife is also having the same problem which only stared yesterday - I tried to set up the standard SMTP server but could not access it either. All details checked.

I also could not delete the BT Yahoo server on iPhone as it would not let me, just in case server had been upgraed and Apple would need to change on list.

So stuck - Is your iPhone working yet?

I have 2 accounts with Yahoo, one being for my business. I have the same issues as the other posters. I have noticed some of my emails being sent out under my gmail account, so when people receive my email it isn't from my Yahoo business email, but from my personal account. It also happened on my macbook, so it's freaky!
I am guessing there's an issue with Yahoo. Even though it says there's no password saved, there is. And randomly, some of my Yahoo emails come in-even after the warning pops up.

Frustrating, and this doesn't make me feel like a professional when my business emails go to clients from all different accounts.

I have the same problem.

iPhone 3G with email on BT Yahoo. Can receive email but not send. Worked fine for a year then stopped a few days ago.

I have tried all these suggestions to no avail.

What I have noticed however is this. When I check my password it has one too few characters - this would obviously cause a problem.

However if I re-enter the pass word or delete and re-add my account with the correct password it is accepted or "verified" but an instant later, the final character of the password just mysteriously gets deleted. I've watched it time and time again, it just disappears.

Perhaps some others could try to replicate this by re-entering their passwords and watching carefully to see if they too lose a character just after "verification"

Yahoo mobile help have acknowledged my problem but say; "Please be aware that we are currently receiving unusually high volumes, so our reply is likely to exceed our normal 24-hour response time."

Wil let you know how it goes.

Regards,

Mike

Mike, you have summed up my symptoms very eliquently. Spot on in fact! Password characters disapearing, very weird.
Do you use Yahoo address book? Have you tried syncing? Mine sync from the phone to yahoo but NOT the other way! Dont know if this is related. Is your PUSH incoming mail working. Mine has stopped working. Hope we get this sorted soon. Im having to go to the yahoo mobile site [http://new.m.yahoo.com> to send my mail. regards paul

I'm having the same issues and am on sbcglobal.net as well.
I have 2 iPhone 3GS and 2 iPod Touch 2G that have the same issue.
But all accounts work fine if you use a computer.
The problem is how Apple talks to sbcglobal.net/Yahoo mail and how they're not agreeing in verification...
I can't wait for them to acknowledge this problem.
Right now AT&T customer service is backed up with so many users experiencing this problem.

I think Yahoo was working out a new connection. Now on my iPhone mail, down under Accounts, it showed my 2 Yahoo accounts with the Yahoo logo and the same 2 accounts with no logo. The ones with the Yahoo logo have a different smtp than the old ones that were manually set up (using the smtp addresses supplied by Yahoo, BTW). I think they were making changes so that your iPhone can set up Yahoo accounts automatically and now the accounts were updated.. You know what I mean? Anyway, I went into the settings and saw the NEW ones showed "REQUIRED" under the password and needed to be entered. I put in my password, and it worked. I went to the original accounts and disabled them so that I didn't have the multiple inboxes with the same name, and all is working fine.
Check your settings again, and check frequently until that Yahoo logo one shows up, and check to see if THAT is the one needing password info. My original ones had the correct info, so that is why I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. Please let me know if anyone else has seen this.

I've noticed that if I set up the Yahoo mail account manually - that is select 'other', I can send & receive emails but then there is no access to all my folders.

If the account is setup by slecting 'Yahoo Mail' when adding the account then all the folders are present and I can receive, but can't send. I did notice, like others, that the last character of my password disappears shortly after it is entered

I am a BellSouth/ATT customer, which is the same as yahoo mail. Starting yesterday, I too have been unable to send emails--keep getting the frustrating "user name or password" error. I have done all of the above that others have mentioned, from reinstalling, turning off/on, etc., to no avail!

Hopefully someone at Yahoo or ATT will get it figured out SOON!

Exact same situation - unable to send e-mail from my iphone and iPad as of today. Worked fine so far, no issues. i have sbcglobal.net accounts, main and sub-accounts. Same story for all of them. E-mails received, but cannot be sent from iphones/ipad, only from web account. Can smth be wrong with the yahoo server? So far i was unable to get any info, but judging by exchanges at this forum it is a common issue.

Cannot Send Mail - the username or password incorrect - help please?
