Dock Connector Error - No Sound

I've upgraded the OS 4.2 and everything worked fine. A week ago, I started getting the "Dock Connector" message in iPad where the volume control should be. If I plug in a headphone, the volume control returns and I hear everything in the headphone. Pull it out the and "Dock Connector" message reappears and no sound.

I spent time with an Apple support tech and we reset it back to factory. The keyboard clicked like normal. After the software restore, the same symptoms reappeared. All software is from the iTunes Apps store.

The orientation lock has no effect. The volume slider opposite the orientation lock is missing unless a headphone is plugged in. The mute switch shows changing status on the screen. I've inserted and pulled the USB dock connector about fifty times and even given the unit a healthy slap.

The odd thing is that I'll occasionally get a charging or unlock sound, but with no repeatability.

Acredito que se tu trocares o Conector Dock o problema suma. No Mercado Livre tem vendendo e acho que está na faixa dos R$60,00. Vale a pena testar.

Você mesmo pode tentar trocar se tiver o mínimo de habilidade. No www.ifixit.com tem o guia de como fazer a troca.

O meu eu vendi e comprei o 4S.

Abraço e posta aí se tentares.

I had the same problem as hsmBr with it having sound for a couple seconds when I turned it on, then going to dock connector. I took a toothpic and dipped it in rubbing alcohol. I used that to rub the alcohol on the connector for a few seconds. Then I blew it out with a can of air and the problem went away. I had tried the vacuum and a dry cloth before this with no luck.

I tried the vaccum cleaner and the blower too but no luck and finally what i did was to take the Dock port closer to your mouth and give one quick big blow and that solved the problem but although not permanently but still it did the job , i feel there is some sort of dirt which is creating all this mess .

i have upgraded to 6.1.3 but still the issue did not solve .

Just had dock problem with no sound effects on iPad 2. Took suggestion of placing small slot screwdriver between the edge of pad dock port and the bottom edge of the thin black object u see when u look into the port. Just twisted the screwdriver slightly on the left side and then the right of this black edge and the pad. Immediately started working. Amazing! Truly high tech!!!

This worked:

I has the same problem..when i slide the lower bar and click on air play it showed that the sound is coming through the doc connector speaker that is why IPAD speakers are not working. I tried all the you tube stuff/resetting/cleaning/going thorough sound seeings and also called apple store but nothing work.

This is what i did that worked:

First i cleaned the charger connector by just blowing in it. I used box cutter blade edge and just started to slide through the ipad doc connector slowly while kept the lower bar open in air plane dialog that constantly showed doc connected.. i gently slid the blade from right to left i realized that when my blade was close to the left side of the doc connector the doc sound converted to IPAD sound and while i keep it there the speaker worked. Then i slide the blade multiple time left and right scraping that doc connector few times and whenever the blade was in left side: it again showed ipad sound instead of doc sound..then i kept the blade there while it showed ipad sound for 30 seconds and then gently twisted the blade clock wise and then anti clock wise 2-3 times and then removed the blade..and the sound remained at ipad sound and now the speaker worked.

i was using a old almost broken charger cable that caused the problem i think so i replaced with new charger cable and speaker is working well now

Remember this technique should be the last resort if nothing works and there is risk of breaking doc connector if you twist the blade too hard..you just have to twist it lightly/gently and i guess there are two pins that connect and it removes doc mode.

Hope this helps!!!
