Macbook Self Assigned IP address connection problem

Hi everyone

I bought an MBP in December 2011, 13'' running MACOSX10.6.6

I have very stable connections at home and various locations including public WiFi connections, hotels etc but cannot get a connection to my Work's WiFi.

At work we have several wireless access points which are linked to our buildings server, however when I try to connect my Macbook to the network the airport bar says it has a self assigned IP address and cannot connect to the internet. We have reset the wireless routers at work, and other devices manage to interact with the network and connect to the internet no problem.. just the Macbook won't connect.

To try and fix I have tried renewind the DHCP lease however it has no effect on the problem.

Any suggestions anyone?

It happened to me again. My MacBook Pro would self assigned an IP address and I couldn't access my wi-fi. It happened when I put my MacBook to sleep and I forgot about it - battery died. When I recharged, I had the problem occur. So I followed what I did previously:

1. I ran my Disk Utility to check for errors and to correct any permissions that needed to be fixed. I had no errors.

2. Then I followed sebgod's advice:

- Turn airport off;

- Go to 'advanced' and select the network that you are having problems with and click on he minus sign to delete that network;

- Click on 'ok' and then 'apply';

- Second step go to keychain access and delete the password for the network you just deleted in the preference pane

- Third step turn airport back on and select the network again and re-enter the password.

3. When I deleted my password from KeyChain, I followed ZainfromSF's advice to delete all the passwords that had my wi-fi name in it;

After doing all this, it still didn't work. So I followed the above steps and added the following:

- Volkerlauterbach suggested to 'flush' the DHCP memory from his router. I thought that meant going into Network Prefs-->Advanced-->TCP/IP-->and clicking 'Renew DHCP Lease' button.

- I also unplugged my router and plugged it back in.

After adding those steps, it worked.

My advice to those still having trouble: read this entire post as there are many other possible solutions to this problem (resetting the PRAM will be my next try if I encounter this problem again!)

Seriously Apple, this is a problem that is quite annoying and troublesome to solve. PLEASE FIX!
