Computer won't print black text in Word, excel, safari- not printer issue..

Same problem here a couple of weeks ago. Just now sat down to try to figure it out. If I copy the Word doc to another computer and open it with Office 2008, still won't print black. Even if I create a new doc on the other computer and copy and paste the text. I can print fine if I create a brand new document on the other computer without pasting anything. Also prints fine if I create a new user on the affected computer and print from that. Tried trashing all prefs, disabling all fonts, removing MS application support, trashing all the folders in the Library except those needed by the system. I guess the next step is to empty the contents of the Library folders, but I'm not optimistic. Seems like something is corrupting or damaging the documents themselves, maybe I'll scan for viruses.
My computer is doing the same thing - I actually went out and bought a new printer just installed it with all new cartridges and nothing will print in BLACK even on the brand new printer!!!!!!!!!! so it is definitely a computer problem. Happened for me right after I tried to upgrade ITunes and the upgrade failed. Then started having issues with other things on computer and saw folks saying that to fix it they needed to completely uninstall all of the apple programs & reinstall them- I did that and it seemed to fix things but right after that the black ink disappeared - I had originally decided not to uninstall safari but I'm going to go in and uninstall it now and see if that does anything - I'm just sick about this and just spent a bunch of money unnecessarily on new ink and a new printer!
Hi I just had the same problem (my black ink cartridge is empty so I highlighted the text in blue to print it out) and I was trying to find a solution reading all ur suggestions when I realized that the prob came from the presets of the printer. I hope this would help:
Go to File --> Print --> then make sure that in the Presets you choose colors and not black and white --> Print
I was having this same problem, and I finally fixed it today. When I went to File>Print, in the print dialogue box, I went to Color Matching (third drop down menu). When Color Matching opened, Vendor Matching was checked. I checked ColorSync instead. That worked.
I have a MacBook Pro with 10.6.8, has never had any problems like this before. Printed fine 2 days ago and now trying to print from Word results in red ink. It prints everything else fine, pdf, textedit, from browser windows, etc. Word is the problem. I have tried everything that worked for other people. This is the only forum I can find a similar problem. I resolved duplicates in my fontbook, I reset my printer, and restarted the computer, and added the printer again, I tried shannonstoney's solution (clicking ColorSync in the printer dialogue). Other computers in the house have no problems, but have more up to date software.
Nothing has worked. It is the weirdest thing!
I was having similar problems in Excel 2008 except that it would only print a portion of a paragraph of text I had put into a merged cell.
THIS IS WHAT FIXED IT FOR ME:
There is a selection in "Page Setup" that asks for the Print Quality, I had it set to "high". Everything worked fine after I changed it to "normal". VERY frustrating until I figured that one out!
Hope this (along with some of the other good suggestions) helps others with similar problems. Good luck!
Dear All,
i have faced the same issue where i couldn't print anything which is in black font but in same print any character written in other color was printing.
Solution : in my case black cartridge was either leaking or it wasn't releasing the ink while printing. changed only black cartridge and its working fine now. 🙂
Thank you
FH

I have a PC and got some attachments that would not print black. One was word and one was a pdf of the word document. I printed out the word document as a pdf and printed out the pdf just fine. The problem occurred on 2 different models of Epson printers. It seemed like there was a code in the word document that said to use invisible ink.
I am posting on this apple forum because I think it is a Microsoft problem, not Safari nor Epson.
I forgot to say that when the print dialogue box comes up, I put the Preset on "Standard." I used to be able to put it on "plain paper, Best," but that no longer works.
Just printed an old .doc file and it printed fine. But .docx files won't print correctly and even if I save a .docx file as a .doc file, it won't print black and white, just red.
This saved me !! Thanks
