Yet Another Safari Spinning Beach Ball of Death Thread (YASSBBDT)

I have been having this problem for years. Tried everything suggested in other threads, so no need to tell me to read the Spinning Beach Ball of Death web page.

Safari runs ok for a few days, but then has to be restarted or even the Mac has to be rebooted once the Spinning Beach Ball of Death rears its head. Any advice? Web sites like YouTube and Google Maps seem to bring it on consistently. Could this be a Java issue? Can Java be reinstalled? If so, how does one de-install all the necessary files first?

Thanks

I recently bumped into the spinning beachball which forced me to restart Safari at some websites. Looking for help I found this thread. I took a look in my Font Book and saw some duplicates. Removed those (one couldn't be removed so I disabled it) restarted and it worked!
So thank you so much for this solution.

PS: Safari Version 5.1.2 on Lion Version 10.7.2.

Bee,

Yes, I leave it running for as long as possible. Years ago I would leave it running for months. A Mac rarely needs to be restarted, and other than that I never found any reason to restart Safari.

The more green-minded of us Shut Down our Macs every night - it saves a lot of electricity, as it does with all appliances that are switched off properly.

And my new Core i5 iMac starts up so fast, it's not a hassle.

I'm not yet convinced that Mickeysoft does better :-( But I got here after Yosemite got my Safari back to BBOD once in a while (after working with that bloated XCode taking down all my resources). Then the first click just shows me the BBOD for 10 seconds - short pause - and then again for 5 seconds (eventually one more cycle). Then it's back at work. Looks like it made holiday in Cupertino? Apple, this Yosemite (and Swift and whatever) is insane. THIS IS YOUR VISTA!
