Push not working on Verizon iPhone

I just got the iPhone on Verizon and got everything set up yesterday evening. I have a .mac mail account and set that up automatically. My email is set to "Push" and I thought that would mean that I would get the email on my phone shortly after it was received on the server. The only way I get mail is when I open the mail app on the phone. Any ideas as to why this is and what can be done to correct this?

Thanks!

Glad to see I am not the only one with this problem. Even with push off my phone had trouble connecting to the exchange server, I get the wheel spinning and "Connecting" for minutes at a time. If I use a wifi connection it is much better. I deleted and re-installed my exchange email account and it helped but fetching emails sometimes is quick or can take 2 minutes. This has resulted in significant battery drain, and I am in an area with a strong 3G signal.

I was thinking of wiping all my email accounts and starting over but if there is a software fix coming I will wait.

The one guy I dealt with at the Genius Bar today was not aware of the problem. (The previous tech guy had heard about the issue.)

Even though the new phone worked at the store, I don't think I'm out of the woods yet. So far, it's not working at home. And obviously I haven't changed the settings. At this point, I'm hoping that the network is just really sluggish.

If it doesn't improve over the weekend, I'll be calling Verizon. Again.

Since my last post, I've had mixed performance with Push; however, overall, it seems to have improved from the last few days. Feels like something is going on and hopefully this positive movement indicates they're attempting to resolve the issue(s).

Definitely not where it should be and I worry that if too much is going on (receiving multiple messages at a give time from various accounts), it's impacting the ability to provide a timely update / notification.

I got my iPhone on Monday and have a great deal of problems regarding push email of both Gmail set as an Exchange account and also my Exchange set as an Exchange account. I noticed that things were working well on Monday/Tuesday morning, but then slowed down on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. I was having problems with getting push emails in a timely fashion and even problems with logging into my email manually and other data/internet connections.

I believe that problem is a reliable 3g data connection between the phone and server, which is particularly worsened during the working hours. It gets better and resolves in the late afternoon/evening when people aren't using data as much. I've been Speed Testing the phone and on Tues afternoon, Wednesday day, and Thursday day it was extremely slow (0.0-0.3) Mbps and unreliable. As speeds improved and the connection became more reliable Friday and in the evenings, the push email worked better. I believe that we were getting an unreliable connection, causing probelms with push email.

In the interim, I have time sensitive stuff emailed to my Gmail from the office on a regular basis. To make sure I receive it, I set a filter on my Gmail to forward it as a SMS to myphonenumber@vtext.com so that I would know if I had an email that I needed to look at.

As I posted, my wife's new Verizon iPhone won't get push e-mail from her .Mac account. It won't even fetch e-mail unless she opens Mail. So for her, it has nothing to do with Exchange, gMail, etc. I'm not getting the sense from the early responses that this is the phone, but the network. However, why is this still the case when she is using WiFi? Her iPad gets push e-mail just fine. Any thoughts? If one of the original responses is correct, Apple is aware and this should be repaired on Verizon's end. Anyone else hearing that from the Genius Bar?

I too have been having the same push issues with gmail and I am not sure if fetch is working properly either. I believe gmail is pushing sometimes and not others. I did have the icon notification this morning but did not get a timely gmail email last night after I made a purchase.

Yesterday I did notice that I was finding gmail emails in my work email account. I was not in the all in boxes either. I deleted the work email and reloaded. Has anyone else have this happen?

David, I've got the same issue: No push email from my .Mac account. (Wifi or 3G doesn't make a difference.) And what's strange is that my old iPod touch functions just fine in this regard.

The one improvement since getting the replacement phone (which probably wasn't necessary,) is that I'm receiving notifications from Facebook. Maybe that's a sign that Verizon is getting their act together. (I'm more and more certain that it isn't a phone issue.)

I'll see how things go over the weekend, but if the email push problem doesn't get resolved, I'll be calling Verizon on Monday.

I'm having the same issue. After working with Verizon support they suggested I set my gmail account up as an Exchange account... that did help with the gmail, but my corporate Exchange account still fails to receive mail on a push basis... manual delivery only. So I scheduled an appointment at our local Genius Bar (Polaris Mall in Columbus). I got right in and was told by the Apple rep that they are getting a number of these reports and this does appear to be an issue with Verizon. She added my case history to the list and indicated that they will likely be working to resolve the issue and that they'd contact me as soon as they have a solution. That's all I know for now. I would think that as more folks continue to report this it will help escalate the issue.
