I had this problem since i restored my iPhone 4 onto my iPhone 4s. turned out to be a corrupted address book database on the phone.
deleting the database @ /Users/Library/AddressBook (all files starting with AddressBook) (while Addressbook NOT running and when iCloud sync and iTunes sync both off) and re-run address book to create empty database before re enable sync solved it!
I had the same problem after updated my Iphone 4 from ios 4.2.1. to 5.1.1 , finally it worked for me, select country and after General-->Reset-->Reset All Settings, now everything works well. hope it will help other users!!!
Actually it happened to me as well, and I have AT&T. As does JoMo25, stated in a previous comment. It just seems to happen more often with Verizon and Sprint.
its the same for me...i hav the contacts saved, but when the person who is a local calls me up, the contact name does not show up...i've tried a lot of things...is this something wrong with my iphone settings or is it in IOS 5.1.1!!...help pls..!!
I've had similar problems. I follow process of resetting settings, removing and adding area codes e.g +44 to no avail. I then switched back on imessage (it had been playing up) and all of the contacts resynced.the strangest thing was that the only contacts without display names were ALL iphone users. So clearly imessage has knocked all of mine out of synce, perhaps a cure..........
reset apple iphone - settings>general>reset >reset all settings
In my case the address data was corrupted. Not even turning off all contacts and re-syncing worked: the file on the drive was wrecked. Only via jailbreak and deleting file it fixed. The only "official apple" way to resolve would be erase the phone and start as new iPhone and do not restore from backup. Absolutely not acceptable apple.
Hi all,
Just wondering, has this issue been resolevd by Apple in the current iOS on the iPhone 5S?
Forum here has been silent on this and I would really like to know before I buy an iPhone 5S,
otherwise I am not going near an iPhone; not until this problem is resolved.
Hopefully it has, so I can get myself a 5S...
Grateful for any info on this.
Hey buddy,
This was resolved since long time, buy ur iphone and enjoy :)
i'm living in Indonesia and still using 4S CDMA Verizon since 2011. i have the same problem.
i already guessed that it must have something to do with the international code.
if I saved my contact number with local area code +62, the name will appear when it calling me, but will not appear if they texted me.
I did the Marwan instruction, still the didnt fixed the problem. right now, it is using iOS 7.1.2.
If someone have the solution already, please let me know. tq
i Hope this is the right place to ask this, but I have a quick question!! I recently just came to the country Jordan in the Middle East to visit from the U.S. and my phone has been weird (iPhone 6plus Verizon Unlocked)!! since I got here, my contact names on my messages app aren't showing, yet my contacts in my address book are still saved!! any idea why this is happening and how should I fix it?
I have same issue as described by franek. iPhone 5 with iOS 10.3.1. Obviously Apple are ignoring this as this thread started SIX years ago.
