Guys, this problem related to the settings of region. iphone must be configured to the same country of GSM or mobile service provider as you know each country have a diffrent code and numbers format so you can solve this issue by changing the region to be the same as your country this can be done from settings--> internationals--> region format and chose your region.
also this frequently happend with people who sync and transfer there contacts from another phones brand like nokia.
I have the same problem. When someone calls me only the number is displayed but when I look at recent calls the contact name is listed. Also, if I dial a number it won't display the name even though it's saved in contacts.
I do have my phone set to the correct region and that doesn't make a difference, all my contacts are either synced directly from itunes or manually put into the phone.
This seems to be a common problem, could it be an Apple programming issue?
I have the same situation contacts not showing up on incoming calls although it is stored on my iPhone 4 . How to get rid of this area code problem ? Is there an app to solve this problem.
Currently I have to store each contact with +1868 with the number, for landlines this don't work .....
Help needed
Having same issue, I checked region and that's fine. Restored several times and still not fixing anything? Anyone managed to solve this yet?
I have the same problem, a couple of days ago in Egypt all the mobile numbers were changed to be 11 digits not 10. iPhone users in Egypt are now facing this problem, if the contact has the area code (+2) listed before the 11 digit number, then the name appears in the messages, and doesn't appear in the phone log. If the 11-digit number is saved without the area code (+2), then the name appears in the phone log, but doesn't appear in the msgs. Anyway I've heard about a solution but it only works for JAILBROKEN iPhones, it's installing a package called "CallerID-format Fix" from Cydia. For me, my iPhone is not jailbroken, so I'm just waiting for Apple to resolve this issue, probably in IOS5.
i have ios5 now, I checked region and that's fine and i still got the same problem ,
I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS5 and have the same problem. I've saved all my contacts with the international prefix (+xxx xxxxxxxx) but when i dial a number without the prefix the name doesn't appear in log. More problematic is when a number in my contacts calls, the name doesn't show because of that prefix !
Have tried changing regions in Settings as well as playing around with how I save the numbers but haven't managed to solve the issue.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Same problem on iPhone 4 upgraded to iOS 5. I'm in Oman and landline calls will not show up with the name unless I store these without the country code prefix +968. This was working fine with previos iOS versions, including 4.3.5. Incoming mobile calls show up correctly though.
Downgraded my iPhone 4 back to 4.3.5 while waiting for Apple to release a fix to 5.0.
The downgrade was painless - just had to enter DFU mode, then use iTunes (Option-click on Restore to select my previously downloaded 4.3.5 image). No need to exit recovery mode after install. The only disadvantage is that backups cannot be restored so I had to set up the phone as a new phone.
I am having the same problem. Have done and checked all the responses and no luck. Even got through to Apple an did not give good info.
I had a similar problem, was because I was on an unofficial carrier. Apple just released a carrier bundle update for Telecom NZ and now works perfect, I can only assume they have for the majority of unofficial carriers by now. Just plug your iPhone into iTunes and it should offer an update.
I signed up here just to offer my solution for this problem. As far as I know, this is only working on Verizon iPhone 4 and 4s.
I just defected from ATT to Verizon and was suffering from the same problem until I came across this solution. It really worked. all my recent/missed calls and messages now show contact names instead of just numbers. This has nothing to do with iPhone or iOS, it's related to VZW network.
Here is what to do:
From your VZW iPhone:
1) Open the Phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
2) When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
3) You should get a prompt stating something like "Settings updated." Wait for the call to disconnect.
4) Open the Task Manager and kill the Phone, Message, and Contacts Applications
5) Wait a few minutes.
6) Open the Message App to verify the fix.
If you are still broken, kill the Message App again, then reboot your phone.
Good luck!
